[Christine had been effectively holed up in the Phantom's room for almost a week. She had missed
Raoul's outburst the day of her arrival after he found her missing and had not left the room for any extended period of time without the accompanying presence of her Master. She had gotten a rough guided tour of the ship and explanations that the other

Yes, that is what I meant. [A brief pause.]
Thank you .. I have not had much practice and I was concerned I would use this device incorrectly.
[Another pause at the latter question when Christine grimaces to herself. She leans in and speaks again, her tone heavy with guilt and embarrassment.]
I .. I left my own communicator and keycard in my room upon arrival .. I .. I did not realize their level of importance. I was a bit out of sorts .. [Way to understate, Christine!] I left my room and it locked behind me and I got rather turned around ..
[A soft sigh and Christine leans back against Erik's door.]
I believe I know where it is, but I clearly cannot access it.. I didn't know where I was or how I had gotten here. It was a childish mistake, but I was upset ..

It is fairly easy to use - if you need instruction, I am certain myself or any other would have little issue with assisting you.
[As she listens to the explanation, Zee is reminded once again of why droids, and battle droids like herself, were created. Human were virtually helpless sometimes.]
I would offer my assistance in this matter as well, but if you have locked your items in your room then your best chance at retrieving them would be crew. [Another pause.]
You berate yourself far too much. [Zee is blunt.]

I appreciate your offer, although I think I have the basic functions down at the very least. Although, if I manage to get my own communicator back, I might happily take any such assistance I can get. I have only learned the basics of how to speak and send words messages .. ahh .. texts? I believe there is a function that allows for others to see me as well, but I haven't quite figured that out.
[In truth, Christine really doesn't know how much time she'll be able to practice such as this is Erik's comm and he's likely to miss it soon enough. She can't expect him to leave it with her all the time, can she? Especially when she's safe and sound with no reason to chatter over it! Except that it gets a bit lonesome now and again, and it's only been a few days.. Yes .. having her own comm unit back would be most helpful!
And then her face is falling at that latter and she bites her lower lip, silence filling the channel for a moment. Her disappointed sigh is audible, though soft.]
I had rather feared it might be as such .. I don't suppose they listen to all of the broadcasts, do they? Or might you know where I could see or speak to someone of the crew?
[The last gives her a moment of pause and she blinks several times, looking at the communicator before responding.]
Thank you for saying so .. I've questioned myself more often than not, of late ..

[Interesting device. She's tried to take hers apart to glimpse the technology, but couldn't do it.
That was unnerving.]
I am uncertain if they listen to all broadcasts or not. I have yet to speak to a member myself, I am fairly recently arrived. Another passenger might be able to assist in this manner.
[There's a mechanical whirr.]
Why?

I did not know that function of the text ability .. immediate translation is certainly an aide I will appreciate.
[And then a casual shrug that no one can see and she is glad her disappointment is not viewable to the world at large.]
Well, it didn't harm to ask, at any rate .. [A moment of silence at the last question and her brows knit. She moves away from the door pacing the length of Erik's cabin.]
I've .. made some choices and decisions based on things that were, perhaps, not factual .. I think I let my fear get the better of me ..

I am certain there is a way to retrieve a duplicate. They will not force you to sleep in the hall.
[She waits patiently for the girl to finish talking.]
Humans thrive on fear, I find. In some, it produces a great rush of adrenaline. In others, it induces anger, resentment, frustration. It creates a sense of vulnerability humans dislike. [She doesn't know what it feels like, this is only from observations.]
Choices and decisions are things humans deal with on a daily basis - and regardless of if you choose right or wrong, you must deal with the consequences of your actions.
[She humms quietly. She doesn't know the situation if she did she'd punch Erik in the nose, but dealing with what your decisions brought...hm. Familiar, in a way.]
What will you do now that you have yet another choice in front of you? Continue to let fear guide you, or take initiative?

No .. No, I was not concerned about such, honestly. I have a safe place to spend my days and evenings as any other I might hope to have. Raoul would be number two, but fffffff, that took a swing on her arrival .. maybe?
[She then listens as the woman's voice continues over the communicator, her head tilting slightly.]
You are quite wise .. You seem to put to words so easily the human condition ..
[And after the encounters she has already had on board this ship, she can't help but wonder if the person on the other end of the communication isn't human at all. Her Angel had lead her to believe there were far worse things than what she had already encountered.]
I'm uncertain, but I .. I cannot let fear guide me .. It already has for so, so long ..

I speak from observation, not experience. Humans are extremly fickle creatures, very emotional. They tend to be ruled by said emotions when sometimes it would be best to listen to reason. I do not have such emotions.
[Or so she thinks, anyway.]

Yes..I am safe. [Or was she? One never knew for sure where Erik was concerned, but he was taking care of her well enough as of now. I do not believe I am in any immediate danger. [Silly Christine. There are any number of people that would argue this fact with you quite vocally!! She listens with interest as the voice continues, frowning slightly. She is reminded strongly of Ironhide as the voice refers to humans as if it is not one.
You are not human then? [Well, bully for her! Christine doesn't sound terrified about this discovery anymore. However she is now picturing Zee as a giant female version of Ironhide. Terribly sorry about that!

[She's not going to go bust Christine out of prison Erik's room, but she would like a general idea as to the situation at hand.]
No. I am a battle droid, manufactured specifically for combat. I resemble an organic female, however.

I am certain. [And then there's that question and she falls silent, looking at the communicator for several moments before speaking again. Her voice is soft and apologetic.] I .. I cannot tell you that .. I am sorry.. It would be unsafe for my Angel and I'd not put him in any sort of danger.
[She frowns at the designation that Zee gives herself, not having ever heard of a battle droid before. The idea that something inhuman could look human is both frightening and fascinating.]
I have .. I have never heard of such before .. Do you have a name?
Reply
Your Angel. [If only Zee knew how to inflect skepticism into her voice. It's actually probably better that she doesn't, at this point anyway.]
That is an interesting term for you to place upon someone - and a precarious position that it seems you have come into. I do not like it. [Not one bit.]
It seems as though few on board this vessel have heard of a unit like myself. My serial number is long and cumbersome for organics to remember, so you may call me Zee. What is your desig- [No, that's wrong.]
What is your name?

He has cared for me since I was seven years old .. my tutor in music .. my guardian and friend .. I'm sorry .. Would that I could tell you where I am, but I cannot .. [She sounds genuinely sorry that she can't, not having wanted to upset anyone at all with her communication. She listens in silence as the voice identifies itself as 'Zee' and the explanation makes Christine smile lightly.]
I shall take your word for it and Zee it shall be. [The smile is audible in her voice.] My name is Christine Daaé .. it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Christine. It is a please.

I am sorry. [And truthfully, she sounds it. But the last brings a slight smile to her lips as Zee doesn't quite get the sentence correct. When she corrects the term, her tone is not mocking, but polite. Perhaps there are just terms and phrases she doesn't know yet.]
A 'pleasure'.

Pleasure.
[She repeats the phrase carefully. She hadn't properly met many people, so many things are lost in translation. She'd nearly asked Christine her 'designation', after all.]
