002 - Chrissie is bored [Audio: English] OPEN

Sep 29, 2010 10:35

[Christine had been effectively holed up in the Phantom's room for almost a week. She had missed Raoul's outburst the day of her arrival after he found her missing and had not left the room for any extended period of time without the accompanying presence of her Master. She had gotten a rough guided tour of the ship and explanations that the other ( Read more... )

[Christine...you are about to get a lot more technological terms thrown your way.]

A computer is an electronic, programmable device that is designed to receive input and accept and manipulate different types of data. It then provides an output that is in a useful format. Over the years technology has obviously advanced, and hundreds of years ago when the first computers were created, they were as big as one of your bedroom walls.

What you are now holding is a kind of computer. Small, but it is the same idea. A processing unit is a kind of electronic circuit that executes the programs. [Zee doesn't bother going into some of the more advanced kinds of technology her world has. She is not sure if Christine even understood what she just said, even though she had tried to make it as simple as possible.]

There are, yes. The original droids were created to make human life easier - they performed menial tasks such as doing dishes, cleaning house, babysitting children. They never malfunction, and are unhackable.

[Zee is an exception, and has malfunctioned once. Sort of.]

As technology progressed, so did the droids. They were initially extremely robotic in appearances but later they began to look as I do now. Different faces, personalities, and voices.

[She almost sounds like a commercial. Curious, that.]

There are droids for everything you can think of, now.

[She is not mentioning the pleasure shacks, Christine. Sorry B|]

LOL'ing at Chrissie's O__O face notalkodarkness October 8 2010, 14:31:46 UTC
[Oh dear .. the face in the subject line forever!!

Christine listens, trying to understand much of what Zee is saying, but in truth she is just growing more and more confused. She does get that the communicator she is using is technically a type of computer, so she at least has something to go on.]

So .. in a sense .. it's told to do something and it does so because it is programmed to do it? [She waits for the other womans' reply, uncertain if she likes that at all. It didn't seem right to do something because you had to and not because you wanted to.

And then Zee is telling her about all the things that droids do and her eyes widen slightly.]

So, for basic human tasks .. replacing scullery servants and the like? But now they do far more than that and look like we do .. [Like YOU, Zee! She exhales slowly, quite in awe at the notion. Ironhide was a foreign being, but he LOOKED foreign .. here you are telling her that robots can look HUMAN too!] My God .. that's .. that's quite amazing ..

ffffft poor thing |D she's just like 'lol what' battle_droid October 8 2010, 14:45:53 UTC
In a sense, yes. My commands come from Roger or Anita, or the Central Processing Unit inside NRA headquarters. Their directives generally come from the government, and are thus relayed to me.

[Zee isn't much of a freethinker :/ Though she can make decisions based on percentages of survival! :D?]

Yes. They have shouldered the weight of menail tasks that humans dislike doing. They have also been created to do more combersome jobs, such as manual labor like construction.

[Because creating robots to do work so humans don't have to is NEVER a bad idea.]

Pretty much! XD notalkodarkness October 8 2010, 15:34:53 UTC
[Christine was trying, really trying, to understand what Zee was telling her, but a good amount of it was going over her head. That the government was in some fashion responsible for what Zee did or did not do was .. alarming. War was a prevalent risk, after all, and if Zee was made for combat .. She shudders slightly at the thought. Then her brows knit and she shakes her head.]

I do not understand what an android would need to be created to do such tasks as those .. humans are perfectly capable of doing such. I myself had any number of chores as a child and several I do now still even grown.

[She shakes her head again.]

Such labor seems such a waste of your abilities .. [She then flushes and quiets.] Not that I presume to know your duties, Zee.

Droids exist to make human lives easier. [Earth is a hard environment to survive in these days. If you were a low class citizen and made it past thirty, you were doing good.]

My duties had nothing to do with menial tasks that the worker droids performed. I am a special classification of droid - I was built to protect and destroy, not clean up.

[Christine can't help the quirk of her lips at Zee's words. There was no doubt that Zee was anything other than a combat droid and Christine would certainly never question her!]

I've no doubt that you excelled at anything presented to you, Zee.

I have never failed in a mission.

[Complete truth. She's almost been destroyed a few times, but she's always been successful, despite dragging herself in pieces back to the lab.]

[Christine finds that she is not doubting this in the slightest, looking down at the comm unit in her hand curiously.]

I think .. I would like to speak with you in person, some time, Zee ..

[Christine was feeling a little closeted off from the world here in her shared room with Erik. Perhaps she could ask him to bring her to meet Zee .. although soon enough she would be with Raoul and it won't matter, but still!]

If that is your wish, I will comply.

[When Christine isn't hidden away in Erik's room, at least. Zee is interested in meeting this young human.]

[Christine smiles lightly at this, having been rather uncertain that Zee would agree to such.]

It is what I would like, Zee .. I thank you.

[I can certainly assure you that the feeling is quite mutual. :)]
