Title: Bonked Summary: Just when Jack thinks he’s ahead of the game… Timeframe: AU (the Maddie universe started in “Boo-Boo.”) Characters/Pairing: Established Sam/Jack, Maddie Genre: Fluff, Humor Rating: G
Oh, this reminds me strongly of the one and only time I managed to convince my stepfather to come out and practice softball with me. Right off the bat (Pun! I'm evil!) he hit a line drive straight to my midsection.
Contrary to popular American culture's prejudices, Arab men do not take kindly to assault on their women folk, especially as performed by themselves. Women are for protecting and nurturing. That was the end of softball forever. I really blew it for my little sisters, but then from that distance (about 8 feet - our lot was tiny) I'd have to have superhuman reaction times to have gotten out of the way.
I'm sure that Jack's much happier taking the blow than dishing it out, so there's that! Something tells me that if Maddie takes after him as much as it seems, he may have to be a master of persuasion to coax her out onto the field again for the second practice.
My eldest went to her first practice in kindergarden, and I was not able to be there. Almost first thing she got bulls-eyed on the nose with a hardball. It was one of the hardest things I've done as a parent to get her to the second practice, but I managed it, and she played all the way through middle school. Her last coach was male and perv-y, so she didn't go on to play in high school. :(
Maddie won't have that problem. No coach will ever look at her anywhere below the neck with her Daddy in the stands wearing the mirrored aviators and the "I've got your number!" expression!
Ah yes, protective Daddy!Jack is the bestest. :) hehe. And owwie, line drive to the middle! And the little one on the nose. Yikes! The worst I got was a line drive to the knee while playing with friends. On the team I was the catcher, so I had all the equipment on and a fly ball to the face didn't bother me none! XD

It did take my breath away there for a moment, but I still have my very own spleen, so I guess it's a case of any one you can walk away from...
