#43 Blueberry Hill - Tuesday Afternoon

Sep 23, 2008 09:47

Veronica was doing some last minute tidying up before the wedding planner arrived.

When Lilly got home from school, Veronica settled her in with her homework and told her that she would need to behave while Mommy had her meeting or they would cancel her birthday party.

And that would be one slightly nervous event planner knocking on Veronica's door.

Veronica opened the door and her jaw dropped.

"Isabel?"

No, it didn't immediately cross her mind that this was either (a) a different Isabel or (b) a look-alike.

Well that was one question answered, Isabel realized. This version of Veronica did know her.

Even though Isabel had stopped giving the alumni newsletter information, she still kept up with what was happening to her fellow students. And as far as she knew, Dick and Veronica were most certainly NOT together. Once she'd gotten over the shock of who she was going to see, it seemed apparent that she was going to be dealing with some sort of alternate reality where things had gone a little differently. Which after two years of avoiding any sort of weirdness, made her head hurt.

Still, she had a job to do. "Hi Veronica. I'm your wedding planner."

"What a small world," Veronica said, still clearly shocked. "Well, come in. Do you want a cup of coffee or something?"

"Small world, big multiverse," Isabel smiled. Alternate realities version of people or not, she'd missed her friends and it was good to see them. "Coffee would be great. Thanks."

"Make yourself comfortable," Veronica said, waving a hand at the living room.

She ducked into the kitchen and poured two cups of coffee. She brought them out on a small tray that included cream and sugar because she wasn't sure how Isabel took her coffee.

"So... when are you from?" she asked.

Isabel turned from the photo collage she'd been studying. "That question never gets any less bizarre," she laughed. "2013. How about you?"

Veronica laughed as well. "I know. And I'm fairly certain it never will. It was 2014 when we left LA in January. It's 2008 here. Which makes it really bizarre, because technically this Saturday is when Lilly was born and she'll be turning six."

"I think I'll just stick with she's turning six on Saturday and ignore the brain breaking parts of it," Isabel replied as she took a seat on the couch. "She's adorable by the way." Yes, she'd studied the pictures carefully. And yes, she couldn't help but think of Victoria.

"Thanks, she's a good kid," Veronica said. "Most of the time, at least. She did inherit some traits from me and Dick though. And she was partly raised by Angel and Logan, so... "

Veronica figured that Isabel could draw her own conclusions about that.

"So the indulgent uncles spoiled her rotten?" she asked, taking a guess.

"Got it in one," she confirmed. "But they were good to us, letting us live there and all."

Veronica shrugged. "I'm gonna guess that you're from a dimension where me and Dick didn't have her?"

"No, and honestly, there's not a you and Dick. At least that I'm aware of," Isabel admitted. "I guess a butterfly flapped it's wings somewhere."

"Too much tequila on New Year's Eve," she explained. But she noted the ring on Isabel's finger and nodded. "And I see that some things are constant in every universe. When's your big day?"

Unconsciously she began to twist the ring on her finger. "We haven't set a date yet. Things have been to busy with his move and everything. When things settle down in a few months then we'll start planning."

Isabel had feeling she knew what Veronica meant by constant in very universe, and she couldn't help swallowing hard. Because no, things more then likely weren't as constant as she thought.

Veronica smiled. "That's good to hear. So, planning. I guess we should do some, huh? Your boss gave me quite the earful about not having more planned than I do."
