My So-Called Weekend

Apr 19, 2008 12:23

Today is Saturday. Normally I wouldn't have to work but the Ubiquitous Web App that they keep updating and making me participate in UAT for every two months is again being updated. IT has deployed the new code and the "shakeout" testers were supposed to log on to the app and the bridge at 9 a.m. ET to test. We did, noticing a few problems, only to be told at 9:45 that IT was still deploying code and we needed to get out of the system for an hour. Hmph. Ok, everyone went to go do something else (at least those of us working from home) and we got back on at 11 a.m. ET. At 11:30 (after waiting around on the conference bridge) we were told it'll be another hour and to come back. The test which would, "only take a couple of hours," is now into double time.

It's a good thing I'm working from home. Oh, and fortunately my desk and dock are actually set up. That's the good part. But I had stuff to do today that didn't include work, dammit!!

ETA: Just got on the conference bridge to find it'll be another 2 hours. *sigh*

EATA: And at 2:30, they said it would be another 3 hours. 3! There was even discussion of postponing user shakeout until tomorrow as well as contingency plans and whether the code can be backed out. Oy. I have informed them that I have a "hard stop" at 5:30 due to a previous engagement. I almost wish they aren't going to be ready, but at this point, who knows? As my dad would have said, "This is a heck of a way to run a railroad."

ETAYA: at 5 p.m. we discover it will be....wait for it.....9 p.m. Yes ladies and gentlemen, *12 hours* after the test was supposed to start, we *might* be able to do some of it. I will be receiving a call on my cell to let me know if 9 p.m. is possible. I'm not holding my breath.

ETAT: I did indeed receive a call at 9 pm. letting me know testing was on for 9:30. I made it to the bridge a little late (9:45) and we tested until 12:30 a.m. The next testing bridge is at 8 a.m. I am debating whether or not I am joining it. I am also dreading Monday.

On the plus side, I went to a seder tonight hosted by the ever-delightful louiseroho and spiffnolee. It was lovely and I finally got to try real matzoh ball soup. (It was delish). Good food, good company, and a wonderful break from the techno-nightmare that my day has been. Thanks very much to both of you.

geekery, work
