Steve might have left his shield with Bucky, but Bucky had a really shiny costume no use for the rest of his gear, so he'd brought it along. You know. Just in case.

Sparring with Iron Man seemed like just the sort of case he needed it for. He headed into the preserve with his cowl down, since Tony hadn't seen Captain America before. "Hey," he said when he arrived.

He was totally grinning like an idiot.

Offering him the shield, Tony grinned back under the helm. "You seem excited."

Steve slung the shield at a tree, then watched it ricochet around the clearing and back to his hand. Oh, yeah. He still had it. "Like you're not?" he asked as he pulled his cowl down.

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

So. Damn. Excited.

"Ready?"

Shield at the ready: "Don't hold back."

"Are you serious?" Raising a hand to fire, Tony smirked behind the mask. The mechanical whir of the repulsors warming up was the only real answer he got.

Of course he was serious.

Steve ducked his head and put his trust in the strength of his shoulder and the mystifying properties of Wakanda's best export.

"Okay, OW."

--Made for one hell of a ringing in his head. Tony more than just stumbled back before he fell.

"You're so new at this." Steve peered at him. "Can you stand up?"

"Of course I can stand up," Tony snapped, doing that with--some difficulty. "I've tried it in real world situations."

Twice.

"Uh-huh," said Steve. "I can see that."

Up onto his feet, Tony was propelling himself forward to hit Steve squarely in the chest. It was fast enough, but... Nothing compared to how it could be in another world.

No, not really, and Steve had plenty of time to get his shield up to deflect the blow.

At least he hadn't tried flying yet. That would have been a disaster.

Smirking, Tony tried again. This time, maybe with a little more force and a lot more of himself being used to hit. A good bodyslam couldn't be blocked. right?

The Extremis armor was, of course, much lighter, but the shield still did a damn good job of absorbing impact. Maybe Steve skidded back some. "You sure you studied up on vibranium?" he taunted.

"Are you sure you want to fight with someone in the most hightech weapon ever built?" Tony asked. The whirring noise was back as he fired again.
