So, it's been about a week since I've updated. I suppose a lot has happened then in some ways, I'll try to sum it up ^_^
Last Saturday 6 of us Americans decided to go to Vienna just on a day trip. The reason for this is that on Saturday you can buy a ticket for only 11 Euro and travel anywhere in Austria, both ways, if you have the advantage card! Our train left at 6:00 AM, so we had to get up pretty early to get there in time. We were all pretty tired, haha. We all fit perfectly into one cabin and promptly dozed off. Mackenzie brought a video camera with her and she has some short videos of us all being tired and unhappy in the wee hours. I'll try to get them from her!
We arrived around 9:00 and had no idea where to really go. We took the U-Bahn (subway) into the center of the city to see the cathedral, Stephansdom, and just walked all around from there. We mostly just walked towards things that looked interesting, lol. This actually worked out pretty well, because we found the palace and the Museum Quarter. We ended up going to the Leopold Museum, an art museum that had mostly Romantic and Expressionist art, from what I could tell (So, quintesentially "Germanesque," haha). I couldn't take any pictures in there, unfortunately. We saw some really cool stuff, like Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt. Both are well known expressionist artists, especially Klimt. We saw a couple of really famous Klimt works, like "Death and Life":
And the famous "
Medicine," that was burnt by the Nazis in 1945. There is a reproduction at the museum, which was cool but only black and white for some reason. Here's a detail of the orginal:
I love that painting, I bought a little postcard version of it, along with some others that I really liked.
Here is a Schiele one that I really liked, "House with Shingles":
This one really doesn't do it justice...the shingles are so bright in the original, and everything looks a little fuzzy in this picture. But, it's the only one I could find on Google Image...
I'm just going to put the link to my pictures
here, and I talk in the comments a lot about what we did and saw the day we were there.
I'll talk about this week's classes soon, I think I better go get some groceries now. Tonight I'm having an "Omelette Extravaganza" for some of the Americans and we're going to watch a movie, so I need to go buy stuff for that, lol XD!
Wiederschauen!
