Summary: Tyzonn, seeking old friends and a new life and returns to an Earth he barely recognizes.
A/N: Unbeta'd and still in progress.
Amalgam: Substance formed by the reaction of mercury with another metal.
Once again he found himself wandering through the wasteland of an alien world. This time he was not seeking vengeance but old friends. The passage of time made him older, wiser, and sadder. Not that his outward appearance showed it. He appeared exactly the same as the last time he came to Earth. Even the clothes he wore were similar; a silver tunic with a belt over silver trousers and boots.
Once again he was confronted by an evil foe. Not a formerly human monster like before, but a monstrous machine and it's foot soldiers. The mechanical monster fired on him and he found himself thrown to the ground by the explosion that followed. Using his staff he brought himself to his feet and did what he decided he should have done when he first crossed paths with that red horned monster all those many years ago.
His hand turned to liquid metal and with a quick chopping motion shot blobs of mercury which gutted the metal monster which then exploded. Then he turned his attention to the dozen Grinders the machine monster had brought with him and took them down one, two, even four at a time. Soon, the ground was littered with the shattered pieces which still clicked and whirred even after being torn apart.
He continued his trek to what was, as far as he could tell from orbit, the largest human settlement on Earth; a domed city of a few thousand people. He knew something had happened since he left; something terrible. In spite of this disturbing revelation he was confident that he would find friends were okay.
When he reached the dome he found that a gate was open and two soldiers were standing guard. One of the guards asked him for his papers as the other scanned him with a metal detecting wand.
“What is your name?” the guard asked.
“Tyzonn” he replied.
“This one's got more metal than a grinder!” the other guard said.
Soldiers came rushing toward him and surrounded him with their weapons raised. “Please!” Tyzonn pleaded. “I come in peace!” The guards ignored his pleas. He wanted to break free, but decided that would be a mistake. Tyzonn would allow the soldiers to take him into custody. He could break out of prison later if necessary. After all, he was a Mercurian. No ordinary prison could hold him.
----------
After being imprisoned for the night he found himself being cross-examined by a tough looking commander and a subordinate.
“I find your story very hard to believe” he replied.
“It's the truth,” he answered dryly. “My ship is outside the city if you want proof.”
“Nice try,” the commander replied. “You want me to send my men out there to get ambushed.”
“Oh, don't worry about the robots,” Tyzonn replied. “I already took care of them.”
“We know you're one of them.”
“A robot?”
“You're almost pure metal.”
“So I must be a robot.”
“Sir, should we get an expert opinion?” asked the young Corporal.
“Not yet, Hicks,” the Colonel said sharply. “Not until I'm finished with him.”
“I am made of metal but I'm not a robot,” Tyzonn said earnestly. “I can prove it to you.”
“Okay,” the commander said skeptically. “Prove it.”
Tyzonn transformed into liquid metal for a moment, then back to his human form.
The two military men were silent for a moment.
“What now Col. Truman?” asked Hicks.
“Get Dr. K,” he said cautiously. “The interrogation is over.”
Tyzonn folded his arms as a satisfied smile spread across his face.
----------
Dr. K reported her findings to Col. Truman in the garage.
“Preliminary results indicate that our subject is of extraterrestrial origin,” began Dr. K. “I believe he is attempting to infiltrate the Ranger program. What I don't know yet is why.”
“Will he be secure in your lab, Dr. K?” asked Col. Truman.
“You have my assurances,” she replied confidently. “I have made numerous upgrades to the security of my lab since it was destroyed.”
“If only you had made some improvements to the force shield I would feel a lot safer,” said Truman. “Every day the shield remains down we are vulnerable to attack by the remnants of Venjix's army.”
“Don't worry,” she said. “Getting the force shield operational again is my top priority.”
“Well, if he gives you any trouble just let me know,” said the Colonel.
Dr. K placed her hand to a screen by the doorway to her lab which scanned her palm with a red laser light.
“Identity confirmed” said a computerized version of Dr. K's voice and the lab doors slid open allowing Dr. K to enter.
On a table lay Tyzonn, covered only by a metallic silver sheet that lay across his waist. Metal restraints held his arms and legs in place. His face and chest were covered by sensors connected by wires to a metallic box with lights and an oscilloscope. Dr. K began removing the sensors.
“Can I see the Power Rangers now?” asked Tyzonn.
“No one can see the Power Rangers,” Dr. K replied brusquely. “They're busy defending the city.”
“Can I see Andrew Hartford?” he asked.
“For the last time! I don't know any Andrew Hartford!”
Tyzonn pouted as Dr. K removed the last sensor from Tyzonn's forehead.
“I'm going to leave you alone for a while now,” she told him. “While I'm gone you should think about telling me the real reason you're here. Unless you want to spend the rest of your life in prison.”
Dr. K left the lab and entered the garage where Scott, Gem, and Ziggy were waiting.
“Dr. K,” Scott said earnestly, “They're kicking our butts out there!”
“I'm sorry Scott,” she answered defensively. “All my resources are devoted to restoring the dome force shield and studying this intruder the Colonel just captured.”
“It's okay,” said Gem. “We're holding our own.”
“But for how long?” asked Dr. K. “Dillon and Summer have gone to live their own lives in the wastelands, Flynn went back to Scotland with Gemma, there's only you and Scott left to defend the city.”
“You forgot someone,” Ziggy said defensively.
“We have Ziggy,” Gem added.
“Ziggy is useless as a ranger,” said Dr. K.
“Uh, hello! Standing right here!” Ziggy said peevishly.
“If only we had another Ranger Series Operator we might hold them off long enough for me to finish the force shield.”
“How about me?” a voice asked from outside the lab.
Everyone turned their heads to see Tyzonn standing outside the lab, wearing only the silver sheet wrapped around his waist.
