Oh no, the kid is DRIVING

Mar 08, 2019 20:33

Jocelyn drove the car for the first time yesterday. Well, on the road. We had her in the parking lot a couple of months ago. Yesterday she had her first official driving lesson behind the wheel, where apparently they didn't mind that she'd only had one parking lot session with her parents. So when I picked her up at circus practice (the local place in Norwood, so, 20 minutes away, not on the freeway), I offered her an opportunity to drive home. Surprisingly, I was not a nervous wreck. I did occasionally mention that she was drifting left in her lane, and point out hazards, but even Jocelyn says that I did it calmly.

Next week she has another driving lesson. Unfortunately they're hard to schedule, given her school location and circus practice, so it might be a while before we get the full 12 of them done, which has to be done before the road test can even start. Plus 40 hours with parental supervision. I logged 25 minutes for yesterday's drive because there was a little parking lot stuff at the beginning and she drove pretty slowly.

In other news, we decided we're not going to buy the Tesla model 3 after all, so we asked for our money back. I'm thinking we'll be getting a Chevy Bolt, but it could be a next gen Leaf or something else entirely.
