We are considering getting a Tesla Model 3 -- the "affordable" family sedan which will cost $35K. Well, it's cheaper than $80K, anyway! Today was the first day to sign up for them -- they'll be available in a couple of years. Plunk down a $1K refundable deposit and you'll be added to the queue for when the car is available. It was pointed out this is like Kickstarter -- you're funding their development...
Anyway, today you could sign up at a Tesla dealership. Starting tonight you can sign up online. So, I stopped by our local store. Whups. So did 1000 other people. I stood in line for a while, but I had stuff I needed to get done at work. So after some consultation with Ken, we decided that since we're only considering the car now, and we don't really know if we want one, we could just sign up tomorrow online. Maybe we'll get our car in 3 years instead of 2. But maybe we'll be more ready to buy it then! Who knows.
We're not even sure which of our cars we would be replacing. (Hm. Maybe adding to the fleet. The kids will be 16 in 3 years. Isn't that scary?) It's really too bad the Prius is not rated for towing. It would be great to not have the SUV anymore.
