Hello, f-listies! I am communicating to you from the Great Beyond, AKA Camp Crystal Lake for the Blind, where I am exhausted, covered in bug bites (seriously, blackflies and mosquitos are on steroids up here) and in sadly lacking in time to read FIC! Of which there is suddenly a lot, due to ds_c6d_bigbang going live. So, can we get some love started for Big Bang? I think we can!
My Wilby Wonderful story Unsent (Duck/Dan, NC-17) is up on the Big Bang archive, along with a handful of other fics that I've been dying to read for what feels like forever. spuffyduds finished her BtVS/dS crossover Can't Wait Till The Morning Has Come, in which there are werewolves, mages, and magic, and I can't think of a better crossover concept that Buffy the Vampire Slayer and due South. Plus, well, it's Spuffy. You know it's going to be good.
dessert_first bit the bullet and posted her beautiful space epic Ray From the Material World. Because Dess is a heartless and possibly evil person, she's been sending me snippets and excerpts of this story for three frickin years. And look! Here it is! A gorgeous, moving, lyrical whole! \o/ Something about this story hits me deep in my soul: it's about fear and loneliness and isolation and friendship and love and sacrifice and a whole bunch of other things that hit every single one of the fangirl wibble buttons. Plus, it's Ray! And Fraser! In space! I haven't loved a sci-fi world this much since troyswann's fabulous Real Boys 'verse, and because it's Dess you can trust that the story will have a happy ending. So go read!
sageness's sublime Calm & the Black-Stained Sky is the post-CotW story of my dreams. Sage did an incredible amount of research to make the fictional Canadian village of Lupine Pass as realistic as possible, and she peoples the town with an assortment of compelling original characters. Ray and Fraser are there too, of course: Ray is a volunteer fireman (SUSPENDERS, people! Can we even begin to deal with it?) and Fraser is the Mountie who loves him. And has serious back problems due to the bullet lodged in his back. It's a layered, thoughtful and compelling take on rural Canadian life, and although I'm only halfway through I already adore it deeply.
I'm also eager to read akamine_chan's post-apocalyptic story Untune the Sky (Fraser/Kowalski, NC-17), omphale23's WWII-era AU horseshoes and hand grenades, catwalksalone's Ray/Ray kidfic epic Not in Front of the Kid, and sionnain's F/K/V Vegas!drama story Cold Desert. I just...look at that list, people! That is some mighty fine fic, right there. I've already read miss_zedem's lovely See the Sky and enjoyed it muchly, and I just...would like a whole lot more 'net time right now. This whole "meaningful job" thing sucks!
Also, the artwork for Big Bang has been terrific. waltzforanight did a fantastic job on story art for my Wilby fic, and other artists like omphale23, wihluta, j_s_cavalcante, catwalksalone, roadrunner1896, caersmane, nyn17, bingeling and Cathy Bites really outdid themselves. There is also podfic! dodificus and podfic_lover have produced an audio trailer of akamine_chan's story, and I can't wait to listen. So yay for Big Bang! We have FIC! And ART! And PODFIC! It's a multimedia explosion of awesome!
