"This is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Signing Off."

Whew! can_con2008 is officially over, even though I am, yes, still at the con hotel hanging out with fangirls and contemplating yet another dinner of salt and grease. We're watching The Red Green Show, too. Because we are in Canada.

It was really tough saying goodbye to everyone today. I had an awesome-if-stressful time running things here at Ye Olde Fangirl Hotel, and despite hiccups with the AV equipment and some issues with the hotel staff (bastards!) I think the con went pretty smoothly. There was much in the way of fannish joy and mirth, of course, but Toronto behaved herself beautifully. No fangirls were waylaid by ruffians, or drenched with inclement weather. (Okay, there may have been an incident with hail and torrential rain, but the less said about that the better).

The HCL screening was excellent (Bruuuuuce! Now with bonus Noel and Editor Guy Whose Name I Forgot!) and it was really neat to see the flick on the big screen with a couple dozen of my favourite fannish friends. ("Neat" is the best I can do as a descriptor - I am one exhausted Nos). The sightseeing went fairly well: we hit up the "Victoria's Secret" Patrician Grill diner, where the waiters are hilarious, the bathrooms are scary and the food is delicious. Many FlailpointFlashpoint filming locations were spotted, we saw a 10min Daniel MacIvor play, and some other crazy Canadian crap happened. Possibly some people even tried poutine*

*Brave, brave souls. It had vegetable gravy. I do not even know

I really hope everyone had a good time. It was a challenge to run this sucker, particularly because I am not great at organizing or leading or, um, speaking to people on the phone. But I had a lot of help and support from my Team Action minions meresy and bohemian__storm. brynnmck offered a lot of great advice and cheerleading, zabira and j_s_cavalcante were endlessly encouraging, and secretlybronte talked me down from the ledge a number of times. Ditto for qe2, who helped out with a lot of organizational details (including some last-minute gift-bag stuffing, made 100% better due to the postcards provided by the redoubtable captainlaura). It was a delight and a pleasure to meet suchthefangirl, ubixtiz, jadelennox and kanzenhanzai for the first time: these courageous folks came to a tiny con north of the border without any assurance of welcome from a group of relative strangers, but they showed up, mingled, and all was good.

I was so glad to finally get a chance to see catwalksalone (who I've wanted to meet forfuckingever) and yes, everyone, she is just as charming and wholesome and dirty as she is online. sansets was her usual hysterical self, ifreet was our reliable RCW 139 spy and informant, and primroseburrows, mrs_laugh_track, _unhurt_, the_antichris, ignazwisdom, andeincascade and arrow00 continue to be just as funny and kind and lovely in person as they have been every other time we've met Away From Teh Interwebs. I've seen the_antichris a number of times this year, too: all of these women are starting to feel like real friends. It was also great to meet lamentables, my fellow Can Lit book nerd and MacIvorphile, and having etcetera_cat come stay at my place was a terrific build-up to the con and a great chance to get to get to know her better.

Dudes, how are fangirls so awesome? Science must tell us soon!

I had a great time at the con, and I apologize if my terminal exhaustion made me seem a little quieter than usual. (Which is saying a lot, I know). It was great to play host to you all, and everyone should definitely come back to Canada soon. I'm going to start working on the travel visas after some quality naptime.

Thanks for coming, y'all!
