Well, that was an hour and a half of my life that I won't be getting back

Oh man. Owing to a recent conversation with vsee and my own desire to watch something that didn't require a lot of braincells, I remembered I'd bought a VHS copy of An Affair to Remember about six years ago. It's been trailing me around the country. I bought the film when I was still in northern BC, and I think it sat in my dad's basement in Calgary ( Read more... )

nos goes to the movies, due south stuff

HEE! there is, in fact, an SGA mckay/sheppard AU of an affair to remember man oh man is it MELODRAMA.

i think we need one in our fandom. though, you are SO RIGHT: the film sucks.

ROMAN HOLIDAY, on the other hand? PURE GOLD. if you write a roman holiday au where fraser is audrey hepburn I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER. or, wait, i already promised that. I WILL LOVE YOU LONGER THAN FOREVER.

Thanks for the link! I cannot resist a good melodrama! And YES, we totally need one in our fandom.

I think someone else is planning to write a Roman Holiday AU, but I know you'll love me anyway :-)

Oh, how I love Roman Holiday. I just had a chance to see that in a theater as well. (Except don't forget that Roman Holiday is Gregory Peck, not Cary Grant. *g*. I actually think Gregory Peck is more interesting, and SERIOUSLY HOTTER than Cary Grant. But I love them both.) See DS total crack re An Affair to Remember below.

In the back of my mind there lurks a due South story in which Fraser and Ray meet, fall in love, and agree to reunite six months later on the Banff Gondola on Sulphur Mountain. Only Fraser (or Ray) can't make it because he's been paralysed in a tragic moose accident. Or something. So I had high hopes that the original source for this very silly idea would prove to be inspirational.

Nos! Back away from the keyboard, slowly. Keep your hands where we can see them. :) :)

Ray will arrest you. Oh, wait, that's not exactly a deterrent, is it?

Fraser will lecture you sternly, and not let you have any Nanaimo bars. (Hee! My dictionary-thingy suggests "Raimondo" as a substitute for "Nanaimo." I'm not going there, as you know, but...ahahahaha!)

Also, obviously I should have chosen a Canadian art school. Because our midterm break isn't till March. This poses a problem, because the elementary schools begin winter break this weekend. So we are going away, and I have to do schoolwork (drawing, but--indoors! Still lifes and figures from photos. At Club Med! *pouts*)

Oh dear! I mean, it's nice that you'll be there in spirit, but spending all your time indoors drawing non-naked-Ray still lifes? It doesn't sound like much of a vacation.

Now, if you were to draw some actual naked!Ray...

Um, that's conflating two categories (and courses) there. For one class I have to do a still life: objects--which I have to pack and bring with me--oh, joy. Bad enough I have to bring paper, drawing board, and other ungainly heavy stuff. For the other, I have to draw figures (nude people who are not Ray). The male model is really cute, and really bendy, but we're just drawing his mannequin shape this week, which is unfortunate (and weird), because his poses this week are really cool. Art!Model!Ray would admire them!

He's more of a Fraser-type--which, you know, no complaining, except for the fact that he's not actually Fraser. :( On the other hand, I promise to use anything I learn for improvement of future Nude Rays and Frasers. :)

*cries* It doesn't sound like much of a vacation.I know. See, I don't really care for winter traveling, anyway, so I didn't want to go. I was overruled. And I am sure I'll ( ... )

So I'm guessing you're not dying to watch the remake with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening? WOE.

Oh! I've seen that one! I remember liking it, and really digging the exoticism of that tropical setting. It was kind of a neat update, in a way - I liked the adjustments to account for contemporary modes of travel. I can't remember a think about Beatty and Bening, however. Were they good? Less stab-worthy than Grant and Kerr? :-)

Yes! YES! You must write this, it would be hilarious. Or tragic, depending on your point of view, I suppose. After all, you don't want all that painful research to go to waste, right?

The papers weren't bad (the kids are learning! \o/).

Well, it's about bloody time. I'm so glad you don't have the evil students of doom from last semester. But you mustn't work too hard! Just give them an approximate mark, I'm sure that's what my college tutors did to me, and it was fine. *handwave*

That's right! I think the world demands tragic moose-related accidents! Like this. *blinks* I swear to God, you can't make this stuff up.

And heh, yes, I'm just taking my best guess with the marks. I do try to write a lot of comments with the vague hope that they'll remember some of the suggestions and incorporate them in their next papers, but...well, you've got the right approach, I think. *handwave*
