In which I am bereft

Woe! meresy has gone home after a whirlwind weekend of low-key fangirl fun! Poor meresy. Every time we hang out I'm sleepy and distracted, and so I fear the weekend was a bit dull. However! We went to the infamous Indian Buffet for dinner (no, omphale23 and ignazwisdom, scarfe was not allowed any Everclear) and then we didn't leave the warm seclusion of Casa De Nos for the rest of the ( Read more... )

I'm with you on all the pizza toppings except the olives (a taste I haven't bothered to acquire).

Saw Say Anything for the first time about 5 years ago, and was utterly perplexed by the father subplot. Like, I was expecting pure teen romance, so it just made me go o.O (Btw, have you listened to the commentary? It is awesome! Made me laugh and laugh.) ... Aaaaand I just spent waaay too long looking for and failing to find a DS/Say Anything fusion I read once (it was just notes, I think), that included the line: "I gave him my heart, he gave me..." [looks at whalebone sextant] "I don't know what this is."

Daniel Craig creeps me out in CR, hence I refuse to acknowledge any resemblance with CKR except for their colouring. *stick fingers in ears* La la la la la...

I guess the olives really aren't for everyone. But I do recommend them for a day when you're feeling brave!

Yes, the father subplot does add an extra wrinkle to the movie. It's odd because that conversation/fight they have near the end seems to suggest that the movie is really about that relationship, and the romance is a parallel plot, or maybe even a B plot. I guess the film is really focused on that transition of affection/trust/love from your parent to your spouse/partner/lover.

"I gave him my heart, he gave me..." [looks at whalebone sextant] "I don't know what this is."

China, I think you have just given us the central fixture of the story. Wow.

I think Daniel Craig could easily be very, very creepy. Particularly in CR. But I find him to be too delicious!

Oh, I've tried olives a few times. I just don't like them and end up picking them off pizza after a few bites -- though I don't actually eat pizza anymore, woe.

Hee! Well, I'm quoting someone and I don't know who, so perhaps some detective work is required for crediting purposes? :-)

"I gave him my heart, he gave me..." [looks at whalebone sextant] "I don't know what this is."

*dies laughing*

That has GOT to make an appearance in this story. Note that I'm talking about it like it's definitely going to happen!

Ha! Well, I guess I shouldn't take it personally that this Very Serious and Intense idea Dess and I were discussing is listed here as "wackiest AU premise EVER." :-)

Thanks for tracking this down! It's interesting to see how Pollit worked out the casting. I think she's right--Bob Fraser wouldn't work in the father role due to the corruption issues. My vote is for someone like Gerard, whom Fraser trusts implicitly, only to find out he's on the take in the dam scandal. But perhaps that's too much angst for a teen romance. *sigh*

Oh my god, this premise is universal! Everyone wants it! (Jeez, how long ago was that list even made?)
