Can_Con2008 - It's go-time!
Okay! I finally crunched the numbers from that con-related poll I put up way back in November, and I've come up with a date and a couple of possible hotel choices. The Alterna Con of Awesomeness (aka can_con2008) will be held Friday, August 15 to Sunday, August 17th, 2008 in Toronto, Ontario.
Our con block of rooms will be available for check-in on Thursday, August 14th. The RCW 139 Con is going on the same weekend at the Toronto Marriott, and I'm going to make sure we're in a hotel very close by (aka within walking distance, or just a few subway stops away) so you can hop between cons. I've sent out queries to cheap places like the Days Inn and some luxury hotels in the area. Given the wealth of hotel options in that area of Toronto I don't think it'll be difficult to find an inexpensive yet clean/comfortable/well-maintained hotel within walking distance of the RCW con site. As soon as I've sorted the hotel information I'll start putting together some pricing info. Please don't book your flight yet - I want to confirm our hotel date/location first, and check out airport shuttle options, which tend to be a bit pricey in Toronto. But this is slowly coming together! \o/
Other important info: I'm planning to keep this thing small and limit registration to around 50 people. Please feel free to register for the RCW if you think you want to lock down your plans well in advance and secure a slot for yourself. They have a block of rooms in the very affordable Toronto Marriott, and their whole con will probably be much better-organized than mine. My idea behind this thing is, "Get my LJ friends to come hang out in a hotel with me and haunt the scary RCW con." We'll have our own slash-friendly events and activities, but I realize most folks will probably want to keep the alterna-con small and flexible so they can attend the RCW thing during the day and come back to the hotel and party with LJ fen during the night. (Plus, they have David Marciano. I have limb amputations and a very tiny glass Innukshuk. I think the choice is obvious). Please join can_con2008 for info and updates.
