Pizza and Promises (And wow, meta of a kind!)

Nov 05, 2007 18:28

I am almost finished marking! Only 15 papers left to go, folks, and then I am free! (For two weeks, until it starts all over again. And then there will be exams after that. Eeeek! But we're not talking about exams. We are keeping things positive and healthy). To celebrate my impending done-ness I am eating leftover pizza, and in honour of Ray ( Read more... )

meta, writing stuff, due south stuff, fanfic

ahaha oh dear. see, i know that Carbon Leaf song. i wasn't impressed by it the first time it popped up on the radio, and i kinda grew to despise it the next thirty billion times (way way overplayed). and you already know how i feel about F/K, and then you talked about that song and i just had to set the laptop down and giggle for a minute. not at you! just. it was funny. to me.

::koff::

but ok. i have this ginormous Ray/Ray meta/squee that i wrote in like JANUARY that i'm too scared to post (unpopular pairings will get you wanked much quicker than the popular ones), but now i will post it. because you were all brave and stuff.

Yay for posting! \o/ I'm glad you're going to do it! And at least yours will have 100% less Carbon Leaf, so that will automatically make it much cooler. (I had no idea that song was popular, much less overplayed, and I am sorry to have inflicted it upon you yet again in a fannish context. I knew I was setting someone up for a giggle fit). I eagerly anticipate the Ray/Ray squee!

the overplayed-ness was maybe two or three years ago, so it's not so much now. and hey, it works for you, so that's cool.

I would love to see your Ray/Ray meta/squee, provided you use regular capitalization (because it hurts my eyes to read no-cap stuff). Are you going to post to ds_raysquared?

*g* Okay, I'll give you pass just this once :-) (And mainly because that OTHER thing really should take all of your focus. And I owe you email about it, too).

I LOVE pineapple on pizza. And I actually prefer cold pizza to hot pizza. Mmmm...cold pizza. That sounds delicious.

Where was I? Oh, here in your LJ! Hee.

I also had to comment that your description of how you see your OTP is interesting because that's how I see Fraser/Vecchio! This especially:

there's a wonderful similarity between Fraser and Ray, a bone-deep compatibility and a fundamental respect for one another that's essential to any good romance

I actually would write something exactly the same for F/V. I feel like Fraser came into Vecchio's life and completely turned it upside-down and helped him grow into the better man he always could be, and in the process - though in a much less immediate way - Vecchio also helped Fraser grow as well, and protected him when he needed protecting, and then in Season 2 they attained a really balanced, working partnership.

SD, you and I must have pineapple pizza together at bitchinparty, okay? Mmmmm fannish pizza...

And hee! Yes, I can absolutely see why Vecchio/Fraser would hit those same notes for you. Moreso, maybe, because Vecchio was the one who initially shook Fraser out of his shell, showed him the ropes. *ponders* And I like what you said about how they grew into their partnership in Season 2. That was a lovely transition and you're right: they did balance one another out. I also love their bantering - Marciano and Gross had such great timing together.

Yes, we absolutely must. That's going on the con schedule.

One thing I really admire about all of the actors that often gets overlooked is how good they are at comedy. Their reactions and pauses are usually hilarious.

*points up* What she said. And, heh, I could say the same for Ray/Ray, too. I think OTPing is about finding the compatibility, isn't it? About shining a spotlight on the mutual respect and warmth and meant-to-be-ness, and going, "EEEEEEE! That works! That's LOVE! *smoosh*"

And, FWIW, it makes perfect sense to me that Fraser (and/or Ray and/or Ray) could have that deep compatibility with more than one person. I mean, people change depending on who's around them. They're still themselves, but they accommodate, too. Or, to put it personally, it's not that I've been a different person in each of my past relationships so much as I've unconsciously emphasised/dwelt in/explored different aspects of myself.

You've got a shy intellectual from a pretty repressed and unforgiving environment. You've got a demonstrative, fiery, crackle-and-pop guy who also happens to be a little insecure and a little clingy. Put them together and watch the sparks fly. And underneath all the binaries - north/south, poet/warrior, logic/instinct - there's a wonderful similarity between Fraser and Ray, a bone-deep compatibility and a fundamental respect for one another that's essential to any good romance.Beautifully, beautifully put ( ... )

Heh, yes, I do understand the way mental energy can wear thin, and essay-type posts are probably the least appealing thing to sit down and write. Particularly when you could be writing fic, or drawing, or IMing with someone who understands your mental shorthand :-)

I really don't think you're bad at analysis; it's just another form of training and maybe it's not part of your background, but I don't think you should shy away from it or suggest that because you're more focused on the creative side you shouldn't participate in the more analytical stuff. The teacher in me is compelled to point out that everyone has a meta brain; the only preexisting requirement is that you're willing to be critical, and to break things down into their parts to see how they're functioning. And that's something you do in art all the time! :-) Anyway, I'll just continue to nudge you gently and sit back and admire the way you express all of this in your creative work.

And I concur with the Ray-is-hot observation. Good call!

I've got nothing to add. I just sat here reading and saying, "Yes, yes, and oh, that's so true." *g* I might write differently, but F/K is the pairing of my heart.
