Pizza and Promises (And wow, meta of a kind!)

I am almost finished marking! Only 15 papers left to go, folks, and then I am free! (For two weeks, until it starts all over again. And then there will be exams after that. Eeeek! But we're not talking about exams. We are keeping things positive and healthy). To celebrate my impending done-ness I am eating leftover pizza, and in honour of Ray ( Read more... )

meta, writing stuff, due south stuff, fanfic

You've got a shy intellectual from a pretty repressed and unforgiving environment. You've got a demonstrative, fiery, crackle-and-pop guy who also happens to be a little insecure and a little clingy. Put them together and watch the sparks fly. And underneath all the binaries - north/south, poet/warrior, logic/instinct - there's a wonderful similarity between Fraser and Ray, a bone-deep compatibility and a fundamental respect for one another that's essential to any good romance.

Beautifully, beautifully put.

I don't have anything much to add here, sorry. I can't generate that much mental energy. Well, as you know I can usually generate some of it in an email or a beta, but I can't organize my thoughts enough to write an essay about it. And I don't want to write meta at all. I have meta-type ideas, but they stay in my notebook to inform stories, and I hope that any meta I have to offer is clear from my fiction, and that's really where I want to keep it. That's because I am bad at analysis, not because meta isn't wonderful and thought-provoking! I love your meta and squee, very much! I adore the Fraser/RayK combination, and "why" is in my stories pretty clearly, I think, and...sorry? Just don't have a "meta" brain, most of the time.

Hm...but I can respond as an artist, instead of as an analytical-kinda-person. I'll say one evocative thing about what compels Fraser to be with RayK: Ray's innocence is genuine, true-blue. Discuss. :)

(Also, Ray is HOT. *g*)

Heh, yes, I do understand the way mental energy can wear thin, and essay-type posts are probably the least appealing thing to sit down and write. Particularly when you could be writing fic, or drawing, or IMing with someone who understands your mental shorthand :-)

I really don't think you're bad at analysis; it's just another form of training and maybe it's not part of your background, but I don't think you should shy away from it or suggest that because you're more focused on the creative side you shouldn't participate in the more analytical stuff. The teacher in me is compelled to point out that everyone has a meta brain; the only preexisting requirement is that you're willing to be critical, and to break things down into their parts to see how they're functioning. And that's something you do in art all the time! :-) Anyway, I'll just continue to nudge you gently and sit back and admire the way you express all of this in your creative work.

And I concur with the Ray-is-hot observation. Good call!
