This is the first year, in almost as long as I can remember, that the holiday's have put me in a good mood. Ever since Thanksgiving things have just sort of been, happy, finals sucked, but...now its all good again. However, it seems too many people, on both sides, are bickering over unimportant details and missing out on the true holiday spirit. The religious aspect of these holiday times has been forgotten for the most part, that is true...but most of those who fight to bring it back do so in a manner that further deminishes the holiday spirit. May it be Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, whatever you celebrate, the shared message is to enjoy these things, starting with thanksgiving, appreciate what you have and show thanks for it. Then share your joys with those around you. And finally reflect on the high points of the past twelve months in preperation for another good year. So please, whatever creed you are, can we not just stop our bickering over what we call the damned time of the year, and enjoy it. Thats what matters. This is a time to give selflessly to others in ways you may not have or have been able to throughout the year, and to appreciate what you have, and spend time with loved ones of all sorts. That is what this "Holiday" season is about, and thats what matters. So happy holidays everyone, have a safe and fun break, and lets not forget the spirit, if we can remember nothing else.
***("Holiday Season" being from Thanksgiving through New Years)
PS...an interesting fact that as a Christian I was very suprised to know, is that the placement of the Christmas Holiday was delibratly placed on december 25th to overlap a roman pagan holiday on the same date. Matt B first told me this but that was long ago and I forgot the details of it, so I googled it and found a few church websites and a few historical websites all saying pretty much the same thing...idk...I just found it really interesting.
