The death penalty is bullshit, straight up...that is all there is to it. There are no moral advantages to it, only financial ones, and it is primitave and inhumane for today's society. Fucking Absurd. Tonight, Tookie Williams will be executed. He was the cofounder of the crips, one of the largest, worst gangs in LA, and he got convicted for the murder of four people in a 7-eleven, in 1979. No eye witnesses, some strong evidence and he was convicted by a jury...so lets say he was guilty. The man has changed drastically since then, in 1979 he was 25...now he is 51, people change a lot in that time when they are in regular society, not to mention prison. He has written numerous children books denouncing violence and has spoken to many gangs about the reprimands of violence. Pretty much he has done everything in his power to prevent people from making the same mistakes he did, and costing their own and others' lives. Now for those skeptics saying he is doing this to get out of jail...well, he can't. There is no possibility of parole, at all...nor is anyone asking to let this man walk. The only request has been that he be allowed to live and continue his positve contribution to society as compensation for the negative aspect he brought 26 years ago. However it seems that the great political genius Arnold S. and the wonderfully moral Supreme Court believe that this man can serve society better dead, than detained and writing childrens books. There is no reason for the death penalty, many if not most of those sentenced to life in prison without parole are reformed after ten or fifteen years, these men, who have no chance of walking free...have no reason to fake it. Prison life is not glamourous, it is not pleasant, and in many cases dealing with the guilt day to day of what they did is worse than death itself. Furthermore...there has been a huge spike in the discovery of false or misunderstood physical evidence and people being released after 10, even 20 years of prison terms and then being found innocent. For those of you who say that murderer's victims need to be avenged...would reperations not be better? Would compensation out of compassion, not anger, be better? Letting prisoners live and potientially bring positive aspects from a negative event, compared to killing them back, which sounds better...which, without emotion, is the better decision? Now there is a point. Child molesters, serial rapists, serial killers, etc...those people...those i might not be able to defend as well against the death penalty...however, they usually aren't sentenced to death. They are, often however, killed in prison by inmates and are thus usually housed in somewhat of solitary. Anyway to wrap this up...if anyone wants to argue the death penalty with me, post anom. in response...that way no feelings will be hurt and this debate can stay on here, and not carry into our personal lives. Please, any and all counterthoughts...because I really don't see any that are valid.
