I gotta say, I think that went pretty well. I was pretty nervous and my voice got a little guttural sometimes (hmm, is this my version of cracking?) Right off, they referred to my experience at the library, which let me go on about how much I enjoyed working there and how excellent they were and how my experiences applied to clerical (I carefully inserted the part about training the pages and asking them if they ever needed any help -- which required good interpersonal communication!) Also, how I had always planned on applying to stay in the system -- AND I said that my coworkers had always been really encouraging about being a clerk, to which one of the interviewers said, Oh that's good, and I was like yeah, I have been very fortunate to work with such great people.
I got stuck on a couple of questions, which led me to speaking in circles. Sometimes I forgot the question mid-answer! (one time I almost asked about the question again, but I didnt). So I just tried to cover my tracks. I tried not to smirk at some of the questions because I had been coached on them, but it sure did help, otherwise I would have been clueless.
I got to joke about Boca and say, and y'know, selling clothes to women, you got to be REALLY careful about the sizing... I referred to my experiences training pages when they asked about how I would get along with others and the teamwork environment. I went on about providing the best professional services for patrons.
When they asked about how I stay professional (or something) at work, I said, FIRST OFF, I DONT BRING MY "STUFF" TO WORK. I pride myself on being very professional and being focussed on what needs to be done. In fact, I am lucky that I can just BE "THERE."
They asked what I had done in an uncomfortable situation with a patron, but I had to say I had been fortunate enough to not have one, BUT I would do this...
I talked enough that the little boxes they were writing in were often overflowing, lol, especially the one about what I knew about the library, as I just went on about their materials and their services.
At the end, I didnt have any questions (thank you, Vicky, I said, I think you've answered all my questions). Then they said, is there anything you would like us to think about while we review your application -- a chance to blow your own horn *insert chuckling* So I talked about my degree and how it helped me prep for work, and how hard-working I was, and MY GPA!!! :D Also (refer to the first paragraph) -- to which they said, that's what we like to hear.
Apparently I will hear from them on Monday or Tuesday... they said, I would definitely hear and I was all, GOOD, and then they added, one way or the other (d'oh!)
But after I got out (5 minutes early, approx 29 minutes), I was talking to a clerk I had worked with, and one of the interviewers passed us to get into the workroom and she rubbed my back and said "Well done!"
WOOT!!!!
PS
When they asked if I was available for training days, I said "Definitely!" Why can't I just say YES??
