Let's go out to the movies!

I had a very demographically correct lower bougie outing tonight-- had inexpensiveish dinner of pasta and soup, then went over to a used bookstore and pondered a photobook on Patti Smith, then walked over to an almost drizzling downtown (hmm, it had been sort of raining from Mary's Pizza Shack to Treehorn Books for 1 minute...if you know downtown S---- R---- , heh, I just saw a neo-Victorian movie, so I can do that, ya know?) and almost chilly sort of moderately temperate and...

I saw Sherlock Holmes, Game of Shadows...5 cuppas, please take your disbelief, and give it away for a couple of hours! This is strictly AU Sheelockian neo-Victoriana, mostly steampunkish, and I highly recommend it.

Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr are marvelous. This pair is a OTP, OTT, OT4-some dream!
Noomi Rapace plays a dashing heroine type,(perhaps she was part of the Gypsy tribe that cursed Angel? Maybe the great-great-grandmother of Jenny Calendar?) and the darling Kelly Reilley, is well, swift of thought and charming.

The costumes are first rate, taking advantage of the 1889 silhouette--an interim period between belle epogue and bustle, mostly bustle in this intpretation-- RDJ has a few of his usual hommages to his great mentor Charlie Chaplin ( won't spoil it for you and the only ones who will catch them are people like me who love Downey Jr as Chaplin, and love Chaplin...) and the chemistry between Jude law and Jude Law, well, very few men have it, in my view, I can only think for me, Angel/Boreanaz and Spike/Marsters. It's friendship, but goes beyond that , that even this nonslashable (80% anyway) fan can even appreciate!

A good night ( and I rarely go to the movies at night- maybe 3-4 times a year) go out at night to the movies, at the movies. The filming was unique, imaginative and Mr. Ritchie likes his guns and blow ups and he uses 3-4 different sorts of cameras, and editing techniques, and he did a little playing with color tinting and palettes as well. Might be a little too violent for some, in places, but mostly, an intriguing steampunkesque adventure.

Ironically in 2 theatres at the same cinema, Rooney Mara was playing the role that made Noomi Rapace a star.

Tomorrow I hope to sprint off to a theatre slightly less accessible, and enjoy either the Artist or Tinker, Tailor, Spy...cannot decide which! One hand, The Artist has about a 50% chance of winning half the awards out there and I love old Hollywood...on the other hand, some dry Gary Oldman spy flick sounds absolutely the ticket.

I think I have average a movie "out" a month this year. I'll have to go back and see sometime in the next few days.
