Retro-future casting SG1

Dec 26, 2011 19:25

This cast is obviously a fantasy cast of the stars of the 1945-1970 era, re-imagining the cast of the Stargate 1 cast. This would be set in a very AU 1955-1965 era.

This starts off of course, with the Children of the Gods being in an alternative 1954, and starring :

Jimmy Stewart as Colonel O'Neill who of course, over the 10 years of the series, gets promoted to General.

This Colonel O'Neill is chosen for a few different reasons--a hero in the European Theatre, and sometimes a spy in Germany, he also gets involved in some Cold War spying as well. He speaks Arabic and Russian, a little German and French, his hobbies are ice hockey and skating, and astronomy. He had a deep tragedy in 1953 with the death of his son, and a personal trauma as being caught behind the Iron Curtain and kept in a frozen gulag for 5 months, in 1951.
He starts out as a deeply troubled, cynical, "almost retired" man who is recruited for an almost impossible job in 1953 in Soviet Union, fulfills the job ( he steals with Catherine Langford and Major Kawalsky, the Russian dial home device) and therefore, the Stargate is up and running by 1954, and he goes on a mission to Abydos...

With:

Dr. Daniel Jackson
Both a hero and an oddball professor with a string of degrees and a working knowledge of 14 language alongside a decent familiarity with a dozen more, he was part of a few of the clandestine and ultimately very successful plots to kill Hitler in December 1943. The European part of the War ended in March of 1944, having wound down to a surrender of Germany, which was also partially brokered by Dr. Jackson. Dr. Jackson during 1946-1953 was doing a little of this, and some that- meaning archeology, spying and working on his theory that the pyramids were landing platforms for aliens.

Few--very few-- people are allowed to call him Daniel. Mostly he intones --especially to white people, "They call me Dr. Jackson." This is of course, in reference to the now outlawed and illegal Jim Crow laws and customs (Civil Rights Acts of 1938, 1953, and 1967)...his is a deeply committed character showing both Sidney Poitier's own history as war and civil rights' hero...

It is a sincere sign of a deep friendship that he allows Jack O'Neill by the end of the movie...

And then there is the Television Series, produced by CBS, and which aired from
September , 1955 to June 1965.
Here are some of the other stars of this fine show:

Did you know Ms. Doris Day has a double Bachelors from UCLA in Math and Drama?
She plays Captain Samantha Carter, and gets promoted through to Colonel, both useful on the field as an expert marksman, and as a physicist and general scientist, she saves the day every other show!

and the other part of the team:

Yul Brynner plays Teal'c, a former First Prime to Ra himself, part of the inner circle to one of the most evil alien Goa'uld. He follows Jimmy Stewart as O'Neill, establishing himself as a valuable part of the team, as well as brnging freedom the the Jaffa nation.

And two important costars:

Cary Grant, as General George Hammond...who at first thought "babysitting" the Stargate was just a year long assignment winding down to retirement.
However...for 7 years after he sits down in that chair underground, he finds himself in a spectrum of involvement from directly being in the field, to commanding up to 25 teams of the best the Air Force and the rest of the military has to offer.

Nichelle Nichols stars as a brilliant young doctor, Dr Fraser, who ends up being a de-facto member of the SG1 team, who gets involved in every aspect of their lives. She sometimes goes out on the field, she changes her own personal life through adoption of an alien child, and shows her deep compassion and lightening quick intellect over and over again.

Please note:
This an alternative history, and an alternative casting!
In this history, the Civil War was never fought because slavery was made illegal (in bits and pieces) from 1810-1825.
In this history, Jim Crow laws did exist, but were chipped away, alongside some of the racism, but not all ( thus, the diverse casting...also, thus, the acknowledgement by Dr. Jackson of the racism still extant in his version of this alternative history) in the late 1930's through 1967.
Sexism is "slightly less prevalent", and voting rights were voted in 1891 for women, for all men (African-American included) , in 1864.
WWII in Europe lasted til 1944, March, because Hitler and 30% of his upper echelon were assassinated on December 27-30, 1944. And yes, there were a few attempts in my AltHistory, and my Dr. Jackson set up the successful attempt through being part of a botched decoy one in mid-October 1944.

And yes, I know some of the casting is anachronistic as far as the actors are concerned, well, this is an oddball retrofuture AU, Althistory post...

But wouldn't the interplay of these actors be wonderful?

And look at a few pictures of Doris Day and Amanda Tapping--I think they are very similar!

I don't include Seasons 7-10, and left out Jonas for brevity's sake!
Maybe I will follow this up.

LJ cut for images...
