I tagged this fic on delicious on July 30th, 2010. In the notes field, the only thing that I wrote was "I'm jealous I didn't write this." And that's pretty much how I feel about it now.
I tend to be pretty competitive when it comes to fandoms for which I write. And, while I never actually posted anything for Inception, the movie, and in particular the pairing of Arthur/Ariadne, always resonated with me. There is still 8k of unfinished fic for this fandom and pairing that I began extremely shortly after having seen the film but ultimately never completed; I got bogged down in porn, which at the time was something I was very new to writing.
So yeah, I was jealous of this fic and I still am.
It's basically a lot of missing scenes from the film from Ariadne's POV and centers mostly around her flirtation/relationship with Arthur. The thing that got me about it, when I first read it and now, is how detailed and how ambitious it is in filling in gaps in information about the tech and finer points of extraction. I am particularly thinking of a scene in which Eames explains to Ariadne how to spot a Forger.
Someinstant really digs deep into the philosophy of extraction and how life and perception changes once you spend copious amounts of time in the dream and she did it (according to the notes) quite soon after just one viewing of the film.
This is also apparently the first Inception fic that I tagged on delicious, and I think it's really informed how I feel about, and personally would write, the characters if I were more active in the fandom. I think that perhaps is Ariadne is a little less rough around the edges than I would write mine, but this Arthur is just the way I want my Arthur; very smart, very cool, but simmering hot and a little insecure just under the surface.
Next time, probably some Sherlock fic!
