What have I been doing?

Kitchen, living room and dining room remodel is what!

These pictures are about a week old. At this point we have cabinets and granite countertops installed (as of Friday), and I've spent the holiday weekend putting the red oak flooring down in the dining room and living room.  8 boxes left, 75" to go. That's a full day with the way it's been going.

Had a 1 hour setback yesterday when I had a piece 3 rows deep explode on me. It took about an hour to dig it out and patch in a new piece. Unpleasant, but I think I managed to make it pretty transparent. It happens, but it sure makes me grit my teeth.

The new appliances are here, although not fully functional yet. We plugged the refrigerator in, and are slowly migrating into it. The stove isn't fully installed since the vent hood isn't installed yet, but we can COOK again! Plumber comes Tuesday to hook up the sink and water to the refrigerator and dishwasher, and run the drains. Then it's a list of fine-tuning items for the contractor, and the rest of the flooring plus baseboard trim, and a tile surround for me to get completed.

As hard a work as this is, I find it pretty fulfilling. I'm accomplishing something, and it looks good. In fact the electrician who was in Friday was complimenting our choice of counter top granite and how the flooring looked. Given how many houses he sees, I take that as good praise!

Fitting ourselves into an entirely new kitchen setup is going to be interesting to say the least. We've completely changed the flow of the kitchen, so it's going to be a piece-by-piece move in process. So far though, our theories on how things would improve have been correct. The ceiling feels a lot taller, and kitchen a lot lighter and easier to move in.

We're very pleased.
