bedtime stories for you

ahhhh, the stories i could tell.

the other night there was a fireworks festival at Mihama. i had been eating at the "Jhai Thai" restaurant, which served more authentic thai food than "thai thai exotic asian dining." it really brought me back to my days in Tak, eating basil chicken and rice. when the waiter at a thai restaurant warns you that the food is spicy, you know its going to be unbelievably hot. my nose was running and my eyes were watering, the only thing that kept my guts intact were bottle after bottle of SINGHA!!! Singha has got to be the finest beer i've ever had, i can see why the thais drink it, it really soothes the spicyness. so anyways, we left jhai thai, and went down to the starbucks, and the grand finale of the fireworks kicked off, then shortly after the streets were flooded with Okinawans donning traditional dress. the women wore these elegant kimonos, and it was surreal to be sitting outside a starbucks surrounded by people in such clothes. i ordered a "Matcha" frappacino drink, basically a minty green tea flavor. in America the specialty flavor would be like: "TRIPLE CHOCO-CARMEL NUTBLASTERZ-SWIRL!" but this was a delicous, delicate blend of tea flavors with a slight mint aftertaste to clense the pallete.
afterwards, we headed into Kinville, and i decided to drop Megumi a visit. she was sitting with an older customer, and she saw me sit down, and made her way over shortly after...she squeezed a beer out of me for herself, and i got some more tea, with it being sunday night and all. as we attempted to communicate, a old woman requested a karaoke song, a japanese song from WW2 called "off to war". the video screen displayed footage of japanese WW2 soldiers training, and citizens building tanks and airplanes in factories. I turned to my buddy Onti, and we mused about whether or not this was a concious attempt on the old womans part to make us two US marines uncomfortable...perhaps she was voicing dissaproval for us talking to the young Okinawan girl...just a thought...so it was coming to be about time for us to head back to base, and as im leaving the bar, i see megumi come running over towards the door, she steps outside and grabs my hand and says "zach-san, zach-san, oh.......study, doh, english..." and points to her nose, as japanese do when referring to themselves. "yes, haight" i replied, then i said something to the effect of "when do you want to meet again? this week? maybe this weekend?" and she had no idea what i was saying, then i kinda made a gesture that meant, tommorow or someother time, and she seemed to understand, and gave a chipper nod and a "kombanwa, have good night" (oh yeah, she kinda agreed to teach me some japanese too)

its great on okinawa when you meet a cute young chick you can just talk and interact with......(not a whore) and shes local, so she won't vanish like matsami did, haha
