The hardest part of yesterday was being in Milwaukee and knowing I'd have to come back to Two Rivers. I went to see Mariane Pearl, a French journalist and widow of Daniel Pearl, the American journalist who got kidnapped and killed a couple of years ago. This woman was amazing - she was erudite, witty and still an advocate of nonviolence. I could've listened to her talk for hours.
But I was in Milwaukee. It smelled like home and felt like home. When I got out of the car I got that tingly feeling of elation in my stomach that I get after not being home for awhile. Then I realized that I'd just be leaving in a few hours. I wanted to bolt, to get as far away as I could before they realized, but I was frozen.
This has been a good trip. I love my parents. That doesn't stop me from the countdown: one day left.
