THERE IS A BORDERS IN CANBERRA.
Oh my god.
It's perfect. It has all the books I've been looking for for ages and never been able to find, it has a coffee shop, it has shelves labelled things like "Cult Classics" and "So You Loved Lord of the Rings...", it has a coffee shop, it has armchairs all over the place... it even has decent music. I was there for over two hours. :D
I bought Perdido Street Station by China Mieville, which I heard about a few days ago and thought it sounded great but that I'd never find it here in a million years. And I found it. Oh my god.

(The rest of the new wing of the Canberra Centre looks good too, though a lot of the shops aren't open yet. Go and check it out if you're in Canberra.)
