more dresses and the rest of the weekend

i really don't feel like making two different posts about this weekend, so...

my mom dragged me to another bridal salon yesterday. it was going to be just her and I and no one else. neither of us had realized there was a bridal salon over where she was last week, so she decided it would be beneficial to check it out. so what if we don't find anything, at least we looked, right? so, she made an appointment and we went. i tried on a few dresses which weren't that great. i asked for no huge skirts and i got dresses with huge skirts. i think having my mom pull some dresses helped give my consultant and idea of what i was REALLY looking for. finally, we found one and this one blew all the others out of the water. EVEN beats the one we all liked last week. it's even more flattering on me and it's actually comfortable. unfortunately, they didn't have it in my size, so the sample looked a little odd. but the overall look was much better than the other dress from last week. in all honesty, i think this is THE ONE. it looks like a two-piece dress on the manufacturer's website, but it's not. i love the halter-top style and the lighter fabric is lovely. there is a train, but it's not super long or non-existent. i think it's perfect. it's also not a traditional dress, either, which is what i'm looking for. i don't have any picture of me IN the dress. the salon we were at didn't allow photographs, which i found really odd.

the plan is for me to call the bridal salon we really like and were planning to buy from originally, and see if they can order this dress. they do carry this brand of bridal gowns, so it's only a matter of special ordering a sample and then trying it on in their store. even perhaps trying on a few more in the same style to make sure that i really like the one i picked. the thing is, they might already have it in the store. i remember my consultant saying they didn't have many halter-top style dresses because they've found that everyone wants it and then they don't look good in it once it's on. the thing is, i KNOW i look good in halter tops. it pulls my shoulders out and accentuates the neckline. the thing about this latest dress is that there is some basting in the bodice which helps keep me upright. it's very supportive and i like that.

in the end, i'm glad we went to try on more dresses. my mom invited us over for dinner last night and we chatted a bit more about some wedding details. there are some opinions about how we should name our tables, instead of numbering them. i wanted to be a nerd and use the names of all the main cities in WoW. my mom didn't like that idea and marshall was iffy. marshall's idea was to have all the tables be names of cities we've been to together (paris, london, boston, etc). my mom had an idea of naming all the tables the different names of beaches in santa cruz. there might be enough for 12 tables, but we'd have to research. my mom also told me she'd help us with the favor supplies. she loves doing these arts and crafts things and is really excited about our favor idea. :)

as for the rest of the weekend, it went really well. after margaritas at aqui's on friday night, marshall and i woke up early saturday morning to get breakfast ready for the breakfast club. it was our turn to do the once-a-month homemade breakfast. liam and paco did the first one and we volunteered for the second one. i planned on making a spanish tortilla, gazpacho, and coffee cake. i added some sausage in there, too, since we have some very defiant meat-eaters in our group. :P i was chatting away and not paying attention to my eggs and they set too quickly and i couldn't get the potatoes in the not-yet-set eggs. so, it turned into a very yummy potato and onion scramble. i loved the flavor and just wish i could've gotten it the way it was supposed to be. everything else came out great. the coffee cake, despite being half butter, was extremely light and flavorful. overall, a success. after breakfast we ran a few errands and then we came home. marshall wasn't feeling so hot, so he took a nap, while i played some WoW. we had plans that evening to babysit the little ones and then go to a birthday party later on. watching the kids went smoothly. we got there right before they woke up from their naps. they took the absence of their parents well and we set to play for a bit before dinner. we walked to pasta pomodoro down the street and they were extremely well-behaved at dinner. it took some coaxing to get them to finish their dinner, but they did well. there was some expected resistance to going to bed. i managed to be firm and they got to bed eventually. turns out, though, they pulled a fast one on us with their pajamas. we dressed them in summer pjs, rather than winter ones. we couldn't find them, so we just trusted them to tell us where they were. believe me there are worse things in this world than putting on the wrong pajamas. :)

the birthday party ended up being a bust. we got to the bar and couldn't find anyone. it really sucked, but i guess we were too late and they moved the party on to somewhere else. oh well. :(

i took a sick day today since i wasn't feeling well before going to bed last night. i think i ate too much food at my mom's. the alarm kept going off this morning and i just couldn't get up. i called in and slept in to 10:30. the extra sleep helped and i'm ready to face the day. i think i'll catch up on some school work (reading forums and any announcements) and get a jump-start on my work for this week.

food, wow, the welding, friends, dresses, family, the weekend
