busy-bee

this weekend was super busy, as both marshall and i needed to take care of a few things. we got together for breakfast with the usual gang (celtcub, norcalpaco, and damneddonkey) saturday morning. we spent most of the afternoon running errands together. i ended up starting a search party at target, since i'd forgotten my phone and no one knew where i'd gotten to. i was clothes shopping and was in the fitting room. i told everyone beforehand that i would be doing as such, but i guess no one else knows that clothes shopping for a girl takes a while. anyway, i walked out with 2 new outfits and another set of workout clothes (including another tennis skirt, like the one i got from REI a month ago). next stop was circuit city, where i searched for new computer speakers. i found the ones i wanted, but they were hooked up to some horrible sound/music, which made them (and all the other speakers on display) sound god-awful. i decided to wait until i went to fry's and heard them there. we all enjoyed some ice cream at coldstone, since liam wanted to try their new flavor (blueberry muffin batter). the flavor, including mix-ins, was called "blueberry double-play" and it tasted exactly like muffin batter. not sure i could eat an entire cup of it, but it was tasty. marshall and i shared a medium-sized waffle cup of cookie mintster - yum!

we split up and went our separate ways. marshall and i put together all the consoles and games we don't currently play (x-box and games, PS2, and a DS game) and took it to game stop to add to our card. we have about $100+ dollars saved up. i figure we keep bringing things to sell back and we might end up getting rock band for free! after game stop, we went to fry's. they didn't have the speakers i wanted on display, but they were $6 cheaper than at circuit city (which does NOT surprise me - CC has a HUGE mark-up on their stuff). i ended up getting them, anyway. if they didn't sound good, i'd just return them. we got home and while marshall took a nap, i set up my new speakers. i got these and they're perfect! the sound quality is great and there's much less clutter on my desk than before. seriously, i don't know what i was thinking getting a 5.1 system for my computer. *sigh* anyway, i figured my old speakers were in fine-enough shape to sell to someone. i'm not sure i could get very much, but some return on an $80-investment would be nice. while bundling up the wires and cords, i came across the work of little kittens on the rear-right speaker. i turned to wash and zoe, who were watching intently as i hooked everything up, and asked them whose work this was. zoe sniffed at the cord and walked away. wash sniffed the cord, sniffed again, rubbed up against it and then proceeded to start gnawing at it. i knew it! so, there goes that idea. i can't very well sell them now that one of the speakers won't work. i guess they'll be going to the electronic recycling center. :(

saturday night we went to a housewarming party for a couple we met through drinking liberally. when we first met them, they were in the processing of finding an apartment together. little did we know that they were considering our apartment complex. a month later they signed their lease and month after that moved in. their apartment is slightly larger than ours - 2 bedroom/2 bath. it's decorated nicely and already feels moved-in. there were lots of people there that night. the theme was sushi, so there were homemade sushi rolls (which were quite good) and tons of sake. we brought them a bottle of sake, as well, and a 6-pack of asahi, to keep with the theme. the two of them went to UCSC and so there were a few of their college friends there. one of whom was in my college at UCSC and she did look slightly familiar. we ended up hanging out until later than most people there, but the people left were all from UCSC, which was nice. everyone was very cool and pleasant. i think we both had a good time. hopefully we'll see them more often - they're really nice people.

sunday was equally busy, if not more so. marsahll went on his bike ride early in the morning without me. i had a little too much beer and sake the night before, so i wasn't feeling up for a 12-mile bike ride. i did, however, get up later and take my own bike ride to downtown campbell for coffee. sundays is the farmers market, so i perused the wares of the local farms. i tried a sample of a green zebra heirloom tomato which was so heavenly, i was pissed i didn't bring more cash. i told marshall when i got back that we needed to go next week and get our veggie from there. so many good items! we had a nice lunch at aqui's and then went clothes shopping for marshall. we had to cut it short to get our grocery shopping in. by the time we got home finally, it was rush-rush to get everything done. i wanted to make a batch of cookies for a coworker, who's birthday is this week, and we needed to cook dinner in time before our kara run that evening.

by the time we got everything done and dinner plated, i thought we could sit down and eat before logging online. nope, just when i thought i could get a relaxing dinner, it was 6 already and we needed to log-on. i was really wary at first, since we didn't have any healers online. our main healer just had a baby this weekend and our other main healer had his account hacked into last week, so we assumed his account was still locked. our third healer in our guild had run kara earlier in the week, so he couldn't join. luckily, we found 2 healers and started the run. we had a few dicey pulls, but we recovered nicely with each one. since i basically have all the gear from kara, nothing dropped for me. BUT, marshall's paladin scored a TON of new items. almost every single plate drop went to him and he even got his T4 gloves, too! we also were able to do a full clear, like last week, in about 4.5 hours. we got every boss on the first try, no complete wipes at all. that's definitely a testament to our tanks and healers. our priest healer was the one healer who survived our bad pull fights and she put out heals like nothing - it was great! i think i only died once and it was on trash. i survived every boss fight, which was really cool. one more full-clear and i can get my new pants. there's a ring that's available, too, which would be a nice replacement for one of my current rings, but that's another 60 badges, which means 3 more kara clears, with maybe some heroics interspersed. so yeah, i'm glad things worked out as wonderfully as they did. if i had to rush all through yesterday evening only to NOT run kara, i would've been royally pissed.

wash has been a trouble-maker since yesterday evening. since he's been able to easily jump up on the kitchen counters, he's been doing so every chance he gets. it was getting frustrating last night, because i had cookies cooling. i finally had to move the cookies to the top of the fridge, lest they be eaten. we had to constantly put him on time-outs. the first time BOTH cats went on a time-out, but the consecutive times it was only wash. finally the last 2 times before we went to bed, we stuck him in his carrier. he howled and screamed, but he needed to learn. this morning we found him on the counters, again, and that put him back in the carrier until breakfast. EVEN THEN after breakfast, he was back on the counters and, again, into the carrier. we'll keep doing this, until he figures out that the counter is NO-GO in our house. one of my coworkers recommended sprinkling the edge of the counter with flour, or something equally as dusty and dirty and sticky. he'll get it all over his paws and will NOT like it, or so we hope. i'm willing to give this a shot. i'm also willing to put up with the mess, just so that we can live with a peace of mind that they will quit jumping up there. i'd also like to put up some kind of mesh or barrier at the back and under my desk to prevent them from getting at the cables and cords. i don't trust wash down there anymore. they don't care about the thicker cords, but anything like speaker cords and phone cords seem to be fair game to them. i know they're essentially going through their terrible-twos right now, but i want to break some nasty habits before they become a REALLY big issue.

anyway, work is quiet this morning, so hopefully i can get stuff done. there isn't much, but at least i can get it done. i found out this morning that my softball game tomorrow is at 10:10pm. ugh...i hate those late games. they usually never start on-time and take forever. by the time we're underway, the game doesn't end until close to 11pm and by the time we get home, it's after 11:30. *sigh* oh well...

kitties, wow, weekend, softball, shopping, work
