Cancer update

Sep 17, 2007 23:05

My chemo starts tomorrow. I'll have six cycles of Taxol. I go in every two weeks, so I'll be done in three months. Thanks to everyone who has offered me support.

Since Taxol comes from Yew trees, I'm approaching it as a sacred journey. While I was hoping to get 4 rather than six cycles, I'm grateful that I get a sacred tree-derived medication rather than Adriamycin (the Red Devil) and Cytoxan (mustard gas - yes, that's really where Cytoxan comes from. After WWI, doctors noticed that survivors of mustard gas had destroyed white blood cells. Someone said, "Hey, if it kills white blood cells, maybe it kills cancer cells too!" The rest is history.)

My prayer for tomorrow:

Spirit of the Yew, I honor you and thank you for the gift of life you bestow. Please greet me with a gentle embrace.

Wish me luck.

paganism, health
