Speaking from an outsider's point of view..ixnayonthetimmaApril 11 2008, 00:09:36 UTC
You can't move on. There. I said it. It is impossible to move on, in the sense that you continue your life as if this person never existed. Because no matter how "little" time (little being entirely subjective) you were emotionally involved with a person, the fact remains that you were still emotionally involved. Just that fact alone means that you are doomed to at least think of that person from time to time, have the memories of your involvement and interaction come flooding back, and ponder over it for a while.
The relationship you had with this person will affect the way you deal with relationships in the future, for better or worse. This is true of me even for a girl that I dated for only two months. The effects are small, but the memories are still real and present. Emotional impression is not a function of time alone.
Peoples' hearts are in the right place when they say things like "you need to move on." Ultimately, however, it will be up to you and you alone. And I gather from reading this entry, you've not only realized this, but are declaring it loudly to the world.
Put up a stop loss, sell the options, keep the 1099 form for tax purposes, and get rid of the car payment and buy something outright. After that, go out and have some food with a friend. I'm spinning my wheels, because I feel you already know all this...

I disagree entirely. One can move on.
Although you may not ever forget the girls you have loved, you will eventually cease to love them. If you no longer feel the feelings, then I'd say you have moved on.

Of course, I could be completely wrong here.
