[Title] Forbidden Love
[Pairing] Hongki x Seunghyun
[Rating] PG-13
[Genre] (Author-created) song-fic, maaaaaaaybe romance?
[Word Count] 1,436
[Author's Note] This was written for my friend Cassie for her birthday :D we were talking the other night about censorship in Korea and how it can be pretty ridiculous, and after a very long (and quite amusing) discussion, we decided this fic needed to be written. It is basically FTisland filming a video for a song about the forbidden love between boys in the hopes of helping loosen up the censorship. I don't honestly know how else to describe it xD so, enjoy?

Also, these lyrics were written by me. I'm no lyricist (not in the slightest), so they're not all that good. But I tried to make them sound like they'd been translated, so the awkwardness is completely intentional.

And Happy Birthday, Cass!

It seemed as if there was nothing but scandal after scandal in the music industry, popping up in the news every day, and no one was free from scrutiny to see if maybe they were the next one in line for it. It was as though everyone’s lyrics were “too suggestive,” or their outfits revealed too much and couldn’t be shown to younger audiences, or a music video gave off the wrong idea; “under my skin” was suddenly a sexual innuendo, and Rain’s “magic stick” certainly wasn’t pertaining to the cane he was dancing with, nor were his “body shakes” his dancing. And even though Hongki never questioned the conservative nature of his home country before, it all started feeling too ridiculous, constricting, as if the government was trying so hard to clamp down on anything that could possibly taint Korea’s youth; it was suffocating, even to a band that never toed the line. Until now.

I never thought it would come to this
I never thought I’d be here
What do I follow, my head or my heart?
They kept to their typical love song, Hongki’s emotional vocals building up to a dramatic breaking point, but the new concept was “Forbidden Love,” and they hoped it would help rock the foundations of music hard enough that perhaps something would change, that maybe people would open up and be more accepting of something even a little suggestive, that maybe the government would ease up on how much they chose to censor from the public. Forbidden Love. It had been Hongki’s idea, but it was said more in angry jest after watching the news one night; he hadn’t honestly thought that they’d go through with it. But here they were, the song freshly recorded just a few days ago, and the filming for their music video taking place.

They always say it’s wrong to feel this way
But they don’t know how I feel
My heart hurts when they say things like that.
The set was dim, muted lights falling onto a mock bedroom. Dark mahogany nightstands set next to a large bed covered with dark sheets; tall lamps adorned the corners while shorter ones were placed on top of the dresser; curtains to match the bedspread hung over the fake windows, adding to the dark atmosphere as well. Hongki was sitting on the end of the bed, his hands nervously clenching the cotton fabric of the covers between his fingers. His nerves were only half an act. On one hand, he was nervous that they were shooting this video for a song he’d never thought would get made; on the other, he was nervous because the newest member of their band was standing between his legs. Both of them were waiting for the director to give them the cue to start.

Maybe it’s wrong to be here with you
Maybe it’s wrong...
The music started playing in the background, one of the stagehands turning it up loudly, and the director gave the signal to begin. Hongki could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he reached one hand out to touch the front of Seunghyun’s shirt, using the music as best he could to get into his acting. He moved slowly up, over the small white buttons keeping the younger boy’s shirt closed, until he reached his cheek, his thumb caressing the smooth, make-upped skin while brushing his fingers over Seunghyun’s ear and watching as he leaned into the touch. The director called instructions to them, what to do with their hands, what kind of look to give, how much emotion to show, but Hongki figured that the two of them understood the message of the song well enough to figure out how to do this on their own. But he didn’t say anything, just slid his hand slowly down the new guitarist’s chin, down to his collarbones where he lingered for just a moment, then back behind his neck, pulling the younger boy down slowly until their faces were inches apart.

Maybe it’s wrong to be here with you
But my heart says it’s alright
So I’ll ignore what they say and give into you
Just like I want to

The director called something to them, but the words were lost on Seunghyun, the younger finding it surprisingly easy to give into the emotions of the song and to be this close to the older boy. Closing his eyes halfway, he parted his lips just enough to let out a slow breath, exhaling as he brushed his lips and the tip of his nose against Hongki’s forehead while Hongki whispered hotly against Seunghyun’s throat. The older boy’s words weren’t loud enough to be heard, even by Seunghyun, but he supposed that helped add to the atmosphere. Slowly he pulled away, just enough that his lips didn’t quite touch Hongki’s skin as he moved down his nose, one hand tilting Hongki’s chin up, and stopping beside his lips. He looked into his eyes, seeing those emotions Hongki was so good at expressing in his eyes, and he remembered what the director had told him to do at this point. He leaned closer, closer, until their lips were a hair’s breadth away, and whispered “I love you.”

I’m lost in this forbidden love
Drowning in an ocean of sin
I’m so lost, clambering breathlessly
For a taste of you
To feel you close, to hold you near
And it feels so right
I can’t help but give into this forbidden love
The buttons on Seunghyun’s shirt came easily undone in Hongki’s hands, the button-holes intentionally made a touch too big just for this scene, and with barely a moment’s hesitation, Hongki had his fingers on Seunghyun’s stomach, wrapping around him until his hands were clasped behind the younger boy. More was being said from just outside the set, and Hongki followed the instructions, pulling Seunghyun closer until he had no choice but to stand straight instead of leaning over, and he placed a small kiss next to his navel. He felt Seunghyun’s hand in his hair a few moments later, after another kiss, gently pulling Hongki away, and he braced his hands behind him on the bed, allowing the guitarist to slowly push him back until he was lying on the sheets. He took a breath, being sure to expand his chest to show the camera how deep it was, how heavy it was, and Seunghyun lifted one knee onto the bed as he leaned over Hongki, bringing their faces once again close together.

The pain of not being accepted
The shame of being suppressed
We can’t even tell anyone of our love
The repercussions would be unbearable
If anyone knew
So I’ll keep you close and whisper to you
That we at least have each other
This was it. Hongki wasn’t faking the deep breaths or the glazed over look in his eyes anymore as Seunghyun tilted his head just slightly to the side, lowering his face until their lips met in a soft kiss. It took a moment for Hongki to react, to kiss back, not following any instructions this time, simply giving in to the moment. One slow kiss bled into another, and Hongki brought one hand to Seunghyun’s side, pushing the shirt back and touching his heated skin. With a word from the director, Seunghyun moved just enough for Hongki to lean his head just a touch more and press an open mouthed kiss to his neck.

If they could understand the reasons I cry
If I could tell them everything
I wish we didn’t have to keep this secret
But we’ll keep it a secret
Our sin, our forbidden love
They gave each other one last kiss, pressing their mouths together while a single tear slid back into Hongki’s hair. This would be where the video faded to black, leaving off on the kiss of a forbidden love. The director called to them that it was over, congratulating them on a moving performance that was sure to cause a stir in the Korean market. Hongki wondered if the media, the government, the fans, would actually listen to the meaning of the song and understand where it had truly come from. After all, Hongki hadn’t written it with just the intention of causing an uproar in the industry.

I’m lost in this forbidden love
Drowning in an ocean of sin
I’m so lost, clambering breathlessly
For a taste of you
To feel you close, to hold you near
And it feels so right
I can’t help but give into this forbidden love

And here's the lyrics in case anyone wants to see them not split up:

I never thought it would come to this
I never thought I’d be here
What do I follow, my head or my heart?
They always say it’s wrong to feel this way
But they don’t know how I feel
My heart hurts when they say things like that.

Maybe it’s wrong to be here with you
But my heart says it’s alright
So I’ll ignore what they say and give into you
Just like I want to

{Chorus}
I’m lost in this forbidden love
Drowning in an ocean of sin
I’m so lost, clambering breathlessly
For a taste of you
To feel you close, to hold you near
And it feels so right
I can’t help but give into this forbidden love

The pain of not being accepted
The shame of being suppressed
We can’t even tell anyone of our love
The repercussions would be unbearable
If anyone knew
So I’ll keep you close and whisper to you
That we at least have each other

If they could understand the reasons I cry
If I could tell them everything
I wish we didn’t have to keep this secret
But we’ll keep it a secret
Our sin, our forbidden love

{Chorus}
