I have a good friend who is feeling called to the Healing Arts (especially herbalism and aromatherapy) and "shamanistic" spiritwork. He is curious about the indigenous cultures of Africa and the Americas (in a respectful, intelligent way.) He wants to avoid New Age stuff. He's not interested in Wicca, and is still going through de-tox regarding the idea of "organized religion." He is bright and shiny new, but has a very respectful Seeker's attitude.
He has asked me for help finding resources, information, and perhaps even those of like mind.
This is completely not my area of expertise. As a TIW initiate, working completely in a Northern European idiom, I'm lost. However, I would love to help him out any way I can.
SO...anyone have any ideas, resources, recommendations for books or sites that aren't complete Newage crap?
He lives in Minnesota, if that's helpful.
