An Idle Curiosity
I wonder what franchise has generated the most video games. When I say "franchise", mind you, I'm talking about cross-media stuff; i.e., games based on movies, TV shows, comic books, etc. If we were just talking about all videogame series, then the answer would probably be Sonic or Mario or Mega Man or something.
As it is, I'd guess that the answer is Star Wars. There've been games based on that since the Atari 2600, if not earlier, and it seems like every year two or three more come out. After that... maybe Star Trek. Dungeons & Dragons, maybe. Spider-Man's probably high on the list - hell, the Genesis alone had at least five Spidey games (all of which sucked to varying degrees).
Ah well. Any thoughts?
