Required Reading: 'The Chosen' by Jetwolf (fanfic)

'Buffy: The Chosen' by jetwolfThe Chosen is a virtual continuation of Buffy written by jetwolf, ultrace and Novareinna. The series isset in the town of Trillium, Pennsylvania, a 'Tri-Mouth', a kind of Bermuda Triangle of hellmouths. The best part of this virtual series is the dialogue. Before TLWH was released, this was my official Buffy continuation because of how authentic the dialogue was. As the primary writer, Jetwolf's handle on the characters' voices was excellent at the beginning of the series and is almost perfect in the latter half of S8 and S9. The originality of The Chosen should also be applauded. It keeps the 'small town' feel of the original series while bringing a wider scale in with the new slayers. JW also reintroduces the Scoobies as a family, a point sorely lacking from S6 and 7. Long-hated characters such as Dawn and Kennedy have been redeemed in the eyes of many readers and given new depth (especially the later).
It should be noted that the series is AU from Angel S5 as it was being written during the airing of that season, you find out what happened in the alternate S5 in S9. If you decide to read The Chosen I suggest you start here with the spoiler free episode list and read all of S8 before looking at the DVD special features and continuing to the next season. Unfortunately, new episodes haven't aired for a long time but the author has expressed her commitment to finishing the series on both the site and her LJ.
