I have found that being a college student and trying to avoid plastic is extremely difficult. Because I live in the dorms, I don't have a kitchen of my own, so I can't really make any food. This means that when I am hungry past 8:00, that I am on my own for dinner. This usually entails eating out of a can. I don't have any silverware with me, but next time that I go home, I plan on "borrowing" some. Also, I'm not really sure what to do about my food issue. This does mean that I ate some ravioli out of a can today and I did have to use a plastic spoon. However, the spoons that the dining hall has are compostable, so that makes me feel a little better.
One good thing that I have going for me is that before I even learned any of this bad stuff about plastic, I had already purchased a bunch of water bottles. The only bad thing is that the water that comes out of the tap in my hall is really disgusting, and not just because it is warm. It has a really strange flavor that can't even be covered up by packets of flavoring. So unfortunately, I have to buy gallons of water. Once I am home though, I can stop doing that since we have well water at my house.
Anyway, two of the water bottles that I have are metal and are pretty nice. They have plastic straws and tops, but I suppose they are better than completely plastic bottles. If you want to check them out you can find them here:
Nathan steel water bottles (700 mL). They even have cute designs, which I really like. And they truly are quite durable. I have dropped my bottles countless times, and they are both still completely functional. They also say that they are 100% recyclable, which is good.
I found this article earlier and it is quite interesting. It talks about the differences between all the different types of plastics. You can find it
here.
Anyway, I hope you guys have an awesome day/night. I'm off to bed. I've been feeling rather sick lately and I need some sleep.
