Mistakes, a cookie

Craning her neck to look at the clock on the bedside table behind Nicholas, she blinked a few times when she read that it was 7:45.

“Shit!” she cried out, accidentally elbowing Nicholas in the ribs.

He woke up immediately while Victor, who slept like the dead, rested on. “Geez, Nina,” Nicholas said, stretching. “That’s a hell of a way to wake ( Read more... )

I’d like to note that even on here amongst primarily female readers (and I would assume fairly liberal since they love gay porn), I have noticed that with this triad, the people dislike Nina before either male. This is, I must conclude, simply because she is female. She has no real dislikable characteristics. In fact, at least in the cookies, she has much more personality than Victor. Never mind that anime-wise she is one of the favorite minor characters, and most people would kill to see her happy. I guess kill to see her happy in any way but this.

Nina, as you developed her, was blamed in a previous cookie of yours by several fans for not taking birth control regularly. I can personally tell those readers that it is very easy to forget the pill, especially with an erratic schedule which would come from such careers that require travel. Perhaps being in the military? Why, if a male refuses to use a condom in some similar situations in fanfic, do the fans take that in better stride than a woman forgetting a pill? At least the female had the intention of responsibility.

I would like to try an experiment with two three-some relationships. I’d like to write one about a male and a female originally together, then a male joining. Then, I’d like to write one about a male and male together, where the female joins later.

If a male had “intruded” on a straight couple’s relationship and asked to be a part of it, I do believe fangirls would handle that better than a strong female acting exactly the same.

It seems that earth today is in the same acceptance state (or less) as a world in the 1930ish. Pathetic.

Yeah. Some of it is there were a lot rooting for Nicholas and Victor together, I think, so Nina intruded. And heaven knows women can be the only people responsible for birth control *rolls eyes*
But I would be curious what would happen if someone intruded on Aideen and Fletcher, not that either of them swing the other way at all, but still...
Anywho, thanks for the support on this.

Always. It just seemed painful to me when I read Nina obviously dealing with the same issues you're dealing with as a writer.

Eh. It's kind of what this whole thing was written for, a sort of explanation.

"Pathetic"? Well that's bit harsh. I am one of those who has an issue with Nina and it has absolutely nothing at all to do with the fact that Nina is female. I would have had the same reaction to whomever it was who did what she did be they male, female, or any where in between. The problem with Nina is how she approached Nicholas and Victor and by her decision alone made the twosome a threesome. For me, an acceptable (I guess you'd call it that) threesome would be created when the couple decides they want to broaden their horizons and invites a third party in to consider and discuss the options. Done in reverse, like Nina did, throws up a big red flag for me. I would like to refer you to the cookie, "Propositions". This is where Nina invited herself into the men's relationship. When she did this, I was thinking, "What the hell does she think she's doing? Doesn't she know there's a right way and a wrong way to do this and this for damn sure ain't it?" Even Nicholas and Victor were skeptical and leery of her proposal so why should my reaction have been any different? Nina further earned her stigma by stating, "Well, I won’t try to split you up, though pitting you against one another... I can’t guarantee that if it’s something I really want." O_o? Well isn't that just lovely. Not only does she insinuate herself in Nicholas and Victor's relationship, she makes them no promises not to use them for her benefit. Riiiiight.

I don't think anybody really wishes any harm to come to Nina in spite of it all. I personally couldn't care less what becomes of her as she just isn't that important to me. She is definitely a very rare strong female character and has more personality in her pinkie than Victor ever will. In fact, if Victor left and never came back, I don't think I'd be all that upset about it. The fact remains however that Nina did in fact intrude on the guy's relationship and was allowed to stay simply because (IMHO anyway) Nicholas, a well known manwhore, wanted to freshen up his love life. Again, see "Propositions". Nicholas agreed to Nina's proposal with very little consideration while Victor just stood there like a bump on a log.

As far as Nina forgetting her pill, I think that subconsciously Nina wants to have a baby so that makes it a bit easier to forget. One tends to not do something one doesn't really want to do to begin with. She already implied that she'd do whatever it took to get what she wants. The rigors of military life do make it all the more difficult to keep to a regular schedule tho. The reason fans accept a forgetful man more so than a forgetful woman is simply because we just don't expect better of men. Men, not all of course, are dogs and we let them get away with it. How sad is that?

First of all, had they not wanted her in their relationship they could have said no.

You'll also notice, that Victor was at first cautious, but then wouldn't choose to be without her.

Yes fans do accept irresponsible male figures, but not female, and that was my basic point.

I apologize for personally going after you. I was very angry at the time for another situation all together, and I was trying to make a point about male vs female acceptances. I have been seeing a lot of sexism and being attacked with it, both personally, professionally, and on the internet at various sites when I have not felt I deserved it.

This time I did. I apologize again.

Oh man! I know all about that getting attacked on the internet thing! :D I got royally chewed out not too long ago for an unflattering comment I made about Envy. whew! I was lucky to come away from that one with my head still attached! XDDD I don't feel like your comments were a personal attack on me per se. I see your point, that double standard Roy and Nina were talking about is definitely in play here, but I hope I managed to explain why people were downing Nina for no apparent reason.

To be honest with you, I was rather put out with Nicholas for agreeing to Nina's proposal so readily. At the very least he and Victor should have told Nina that they'd think about it, asked her to leave, discussed it thoroughly amongst themselves no matter how long it took, and then invited her back to their house to give her their decision. It wouldn't have killed either one of them to stop and think for a minute instead of blindly jumping into it. *smiles* Nicholas is that much like his dad, charging head long into any given situation without fully considering all his options! :D

I do think tho that since Victor is such a bland character that there wouldn't have been much discussing going on. He seems to defer most of the decision making to Nicholas. Victor reminds me of a puppy. Dogs and puppies love to please and will guard those that they love with everything in them. Victor will go along with just about anything Nicholas says and is loyal to a fault. What a faithful little canine is he! LOL!

*grins* Hey, wouldn't it have been ironic if Nicholas and Victor had discovered after they'd invited Nina into the relationship that neither one of them could stand her? that maybe there was a major personality clash or that maybe she had some quirky habit that drove them both insane? :D OMG, what if she barked like a big dog during sex! XD What in the world do you do then?! LOL!
