One small step towards joining grown-up-kind. All right, I've gone and done it. I've just made the biggest, most life-altering, most adult decision of my entire life! I'm buying a house! Wait, let me repeat that for those of you in the back: I'M BUYING A HOUSE.
Yes, folks, I am soon to be the proud owner of a duplex (2/2 on each side). Half of it is for me to live in, half is going to be an "investment," on which I will be the "property manager" for and rent out, hopefully to a cute, single male or the more practical option of a young couple that will be sticking around long-term. It's SO perfect for me. It has a large fenced in yard, which means I will most likely be inheriting my sister's dog Renegade (Go Noles!), who, if you haven't had the pleasure of meeting her, certainly lives up to her name.
All in all, this last week (yes, it's only taken a week to find this place, inspect it, make an offer, and sign papers on it) has been the most overwhelming experience of my life. Thank God for Chad, my real estate agent, and my dad who've basically held my hand step-by-step through this thing. And it's still not over yet! Before the end of the month, I have to finish filling out mortgage paperwork, find a house inspector, buy house insurance, and somehow find money to pay all of these people!
Negatives: Mortgage payments that take up one whole paycheck a month, insurance, neighbors, living alone again, mowing a lawn, and moving AGAIN.
Positives: I'm going to OWN my own HOUSE!!!!! I get to decorate, buy furniture, throw housewarming parties, and enjoy having a place to call my own. WOO-HOO!
Soon-to-be a card-carrying member of the real world,
Jen
