The Office Politic

Jul 16, 2007 16:42

I'm at a loss for understanding it.

My goals at work are very simple: do my job to the best of my abilities, be polite to my coworkers, and stay awake past 3:00. Anything that strays from these areas, I consider outside of my job description. Chances are, if it doesn't fit into the above categories, then I have neither the time nor the inclination to engage in said activity.

I am mainly referring to "sharking." Or whatever you would like to call it. Basically people who won't mind their own damn business, but rather insist on making life worse for others as a hobby. Personally, I have plenty of work to do, and do not need to fill my time tattling, distorting, or backstabbing people I work closely with. Evidently others here are a lot more bored than I am.

I am not (currently) the victim of this week's sharking. Said victim is on vacation, and conveniently helpless, as well as blissfully ignorant of the maliciously incited shit storm that will be waiting for her. Still, whether I am the person in question or not, I will simply never understand why an office environment seems so full of this behavior! Aren't we all still adults? Yeesh, people!

Personally, I refuse to take part in any witch hunts. I know my business, I don't want to know anyone else's, and there's an end. I resent the fact that I can't just do my job without some sort of Falcon's Crest episode occurring. Perhaps it's time to flee to the other building...
