Over the past few days I've been checking out all the viral Watchmen stuff and it is all SO amazing. I'm increasingly convinced that Watchmen is going to be to superhero movies what LOTR was to fantasy movies. The attention to detail on this movie is so thorough. Like the
1970s Newscast about Dr. Manhattan.. Or all the webisodes on the
Watchmen gidget, in which even Dave Gibbons fanboys the attention to detail, saying it's like they brought to life the image that was in his head when he drew Watchmen. Or
The New Frontiersman website that 'declassifies' images - my favorite so far is the Silhouette murder report, because that was such a tiny mention in the graphic novel, yet
they brought it to life, not altering it in a bit. March cannot comme quickly enough.
H2 is coming out in late August! This is thrilling to me; I think Rob Zombie might be my favorite director. His movies are so distinctive and tend to hit all my buttons. I said last night to someone that I sometimes feel like I can judge someone's taste based on their reaction to The Devil's Rejects, because that movie in so many ways was a perfect encapsulation of everything I love. And it's because of the soundtrack and score to The Devil's Rejects that I'm so thrilled about stuff like "The Sound of Silence" being used on the Watchmen soundtrack, after all, because Tyler Bates is amazing at using music to really create atmosphere.
Neil Gaiman's
true reaction to winning a Newbery for The Graveyard Book (♥) that he shared with the world via Twitter was so amazing. Thank you, internet, for allowing us a medium to see caps-locked glee instead of just dignified responses.
Apropos of nothing, do any of you have a copy of Hole's "20 Years in Dakota" you could share with me? (Or, alternately, able to rip it from
this?) It's probably my favorite Hole song, just because Courtney fucking Love singing a song to Yoko Ono is beyond brilliance. And
this performance illustrates perfectly how much of a badass rockstar Courtney is. "You don't fuck with the fabulous four or you spend the rest of your life picking shit up off the floor," indeed.
