Saturday
Saturday really started about 4am. Thats about the time Pat, Trip, Janel, and Jen got in. I hadn't been sleeping well during that time, in and out. I actually went to the bathroom and got dizzy and nauseated but thankfully didn't puke. So when they got in we were up for a little bit, then crashing space was arranged. Then we all crashed again. Sometime around 8 or so both Lance and I awoke and did our morning showers and the like. Everybody else remained asleep. After awhile Lance and I decided to go ahead and head to con since we had a panel we wanted to go to and he needed to buy contact solution so he could wear his Dr. Doom costume later that day without his glasses.
So we wandered to Con about 10am. It was crowded. We managed to get the contact solution, then headed to the panel: Creative Common License and Podcasting. We found out that Lance's camera didn't charge in the night we went into the panel and staked out the far corner in order to take advantage of a plug. Thats when we learned his camera's battery was dead. I also used the plug to charge my phone. So we watched the panel, which was an awesome panel. It was recorded for the pod cast "
http://www.dragon-pod.com/recordings.php" which means if you dig you might find a voice recording of me asking a question or two.
Lance left early to go to the attached mall and buy a new camera and I basically spent my entire next few hours in the same room. Pat, Janel, and Trip all texted/called me to figure out what was going on and I tried to relay to them. The next panel I sat through was one made by the podcast called The Signal, which is a Serenity/Firefly podcast. It was moderately interesting and mostly full of fans, which got on my nerves a little. But mostly it was enjoyable. The next panel: Tips for podcasting for working writers was an awesome panel I wrote down a lot of notes for Ruminant Productions. I also got to see Scott Seigler, Muir Lafferty, and Christiana Ellis, all three of which are podcasting authors who I'd been listening to for the last month. Christiana and Muir sold me their books and signed them, which was cool. So I was like, pro-active and not shy. I was a little shy during the creative commons license panel cause I wanted to ask a off-air question but I ended up not doing so. Ah well. Half a success!
Between panels I read more of Turn Coat by Jim Butcher, a Harry Dresden novel. Sooo good. So after I got out of the third panel, I called Trip. The tentative plan was to meet Lance at the Evil Genius for a better tomorrow panel. So I started making my way over there. But Lance decided to do wandering to take pictures so I met up with Trip and we went to find him. I forgot to call Janel and tell her that Lance and I weren't going, so while we were meeting up Pat and Janel went to the Evil Genius panel. SO they ended up going to that panel while we wandered around the exhibit halls. Trip picked up Fury of Dracula. I decided to not go to the How to Draw and Sell Graphic novels in favor of going to Pat's panel so we could meet up with Janel and Pat. So we hung out outside the panel room until they showed.
I'm sad to say Pat's panel was kinda boring. It was supposed to be about apocalypses but really it was the MC trying to get everybody to talk about tragedies they have been in like hurricanes and stuff. It devolved at one point into a healthcare issue, and two old people arguing about how people collectively suck. Mostly it was a good idea but it needed a strong MC. Or I dunno. I ended up reading my book through half of it.
Afterwards we wandered to a restaurant called Metro Cafe where I had a burger. It was alright. Apparently Pat and Trip go there as a tradition. Afterwards we voted to head back to the hotel and play Fury of Dracula. It was that or go see a showing of Caprica or go to Todd McCaffery's board game night. And thats what we're doing right now. Pat is kicking our butts at Fury of Dracula. We've ordered some pizza for snacking and the rest of the group will go back to con for a concert while I crash here cause I'm old. That and I really wana finish my Harry Dresden book. ;)
More updates soon! Will I end up going to the techo rave concert? What shall I do tomorrow? Gaming or panels & Dealer's room?
