Deathly Hallows

Taking the day off of work today because I went to the midnight showing of Deathly Hallows last night with some friends.  It wa great sitting in a theater packed with people who genuinely love the franchise!  And, it was actually so quiet you could hear a pin drop, with no cellphone activity...what a novelty!  I'll put my impressions behind a cut for those that don't want to be spoiled.

I didn't love this film.  In some ways it was more true to the book, but they jumped around a lot, the movement was seamless.  In fact, in some of the shots, you could see the camera moving, which made it look very amaturish.  Loved the interaction between the three main characters, loved the scene with the 7 Harrys.  I absolutely adored Snape's scene at the Malfoy Manner.  The hints of emotion you see on Snapes face, hints that are quickly masked, are a real testament to Alan Rickman's acting ability.  I did not expect to feel sorry for Lucius Malfoy, but I did.  In one scene, which was in one of the trailers, he gets shot across the room twice.  He is ultimately portrayed as a broken man trying desperately to find a way out of his situation.  Yet he is still a drama queen!  It is by far the darkest of the movies, which is only to be expected.  I think I need to see it again to see what I missed since it was a midnight showing!
