Stuff I've Read/Watched
Comics:
- Batgirl fourth series #7 "A View from Below" (2012) Recommended.
- The Boys #27 "We Gotta Go Now, Part 5" (2009) Recommended. An absolutely perfect Garth Ennis middle finger flipped at Saint Patrick's Day.
- DC Universe Presents #6 "Challengers of the Unknown: Renewal" (2012) Recommended. It's a little uneven, but I've always loved Jerry Ordway's art, and the idea of retooling this team as a reality show with a rotating cast of contestants is promising.
- Demon Knights #7 "The End of All Things" (2012) Recommended. One hell of an amazing opening arc comes to a close on one hell of a note. Absolutely my favorite series of the new DC 52.
- Detective Comics #859 "Batwoman: Go, Part 2" (2010) Recommended.
- Dungeons & Dragons IDW series #1 "Shadowplague, Part 1: Bad Day" (2010) Recommended. Exciting. Hysterical. Great characters and art. This book hit me like love at first sight. *swoon*
- Fables #4 "Fables in Exile, Part 4: Remembrance Day" (2002) Recommended.
- The Fury of Firestorm, the Nuclear Men #7 "Heatseaker" (2012) Recommended. Yeah, Joe Harris is a clunkier writer than Gail Simone and her absence is felt, but this is still a solid, intelligent, absorbing book.
- Hack/Slash: Land of Lost Toys #3 (2005) Recommended. He-Man vs. Lion-O. Sort of. And then Pokemon show up. How can you argue against that.
- Hellraiser Boom series, #10 "Heaven's Reply, Part 2" (2012) Recommended.
- I, Zombie #1 "Dead to the World" (2010) Recommended. But hesitantly. This is well done, it just hasn't pulled me in yet. This is nothing but setup, so I'm going to see where it goes for a few more issues before deciding if I want to follow through to the end.
- Jennifer Blood #1 "War Journal" (2011) Recommended. It's a little uneven in how it balances Modesty Blaise + Punisher vigilantism with a cynical satire of suburban housewifery, but the art is good and Ennis' writing as sharp as ever.
Episodes:
- Accel World #2 "Transformation" (2012) Recommended. Aw, so this is just a shonen fighting show? Darn. I've found most of that style of storytelling to get drawn out and repetitive awfully quick, yet this one is very strongly and uniquely executed, so I'll stick with it for now.
- Alcatraz #11 "Webb Porter" (2012) Recommended.
- Once Upon a Time #20 "The Stranger" (2012) Not Recommended. Another one of those "OH FUCK YOU!" episodes where something almost happens.
- Once Upon a Time #21 "An Apple Red as Blood" (2012) Recommended. Almost at the finale. Still isn't great, but this isn't a bad track leading things in the right direction. Please don't screw the next one up.
Film:
- The Avengers (2012) Recommended. Holy crap!
