MILD SPOILER WARNING
Comics:
- Artesia #1 "Walking the Line" (1999) Recommended. It's a little dry with some flat characters and clumsy exposition, but the art and the classical style of the writing are highly engrossing.
- Fantastic Four #11 "A Visit with the Fantastic Four" (1963) Recommended. A charming, if clumsy, way to kill half and issue with some fourth-wall breaking meta-love for the fans. AND WILLIE LUMPKIN!
- Fantastic Four #11 "The Impossible Man" (1993) Recommended. An ingenious hoot.
- Hack/Slash: Trailers (2006) Recommended. Hysterical. Especially ORBITuary.
- Jennifer Blood #3 "Born to Run" (2011) Recommended. Though the change in artists part way through is a bit of a downgrade.
- Journey into Mystery #89 "The Mighty Thor: The Thunder God and the Thug" (1963) Not Recommended. Gah, this introductory run keeps reminding me of Automan. THOR, THE GOD OF THUNDER, SHOULD NOT BE FIGHTING COMMON MOB GOONS.
- Strange Tales #104 "The Human Torch Meets Paste-Pot Pete" (1963) Recommended. There's still zero character to this book and Pete is an incredibly stupid concept on the surface, but damn was this a thrill-ride of an issue as it's essentially just one long action scene constantly escalating from the first page to the last. Not great, but definitely entertaining.
- Strange Tales #15 "The Human Torch: The Return of the Wizard" (1963) Recommended. Not great, but at least it's fun.
- Tales to Astonish #39 "The Astonishing Ant-Man: The Vengeance of the Scarlet Beetle" (1963) Recommended. Crazy, but in a good way.
- Tales to Astonish #40 "The Astonishing Ant-Man: The Day that Ant-Man Failed" (1963) Not Recommended. Bleh. Bland characters, bland plot, yet another Scooby Doo reveal of the villain's identity. The only good bit is Ant-Man trying to survive being inside a car engine when it turns on.
Episodes:
- Bodacious Space Pirates #7 "The Peace Does Not Last" (2012) Recommended. Okay, so now the pirates are being hired by ships just to entertain the passengers and milk insurance companies? Huh. Oh well. Still a fun show.
- Dark Shadows #19-38 (1966) Recommended. There's moments during this stretch of episode where it drags a bit as they're trying to figure out where they're heading (plus a few jarring cast changes), but once it hits a twist, it does so full speed and I'm clutching along for the campy, gothic ride.
- Game of Thrones #18 "The Prince of Winterfell" (2012) Recommended.
- Game of Thrones #19 "Blackwater" (2012) Recommended. Ho. Ly. Shit.
- The Last Scandal of My Life #14 (2008) Recommended. Things are falling into place for our final pair of episodes. But I have to say that Jebin really doesn't deserve her by this point.
- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers #67 "Green Dream" (1994) Not Recommended. Full of numerous interesting setups it ultimately does nothing with. Disposable.
- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers #68 "The Power Stealer" (1994) Recommended. For my money, an absolutely perfect definitive episode of Power Rangers. All the elements are there, and all executed and interwoven impressively well.
- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers #69 "The Beetle Invasion" (1994) Recommended. Nothing fun or interesting. Disposable.
- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers #70 "Welcome to Venus Island" (1994) Not Recommended. Has some great moments tucked in there, but ultimately never does anything with them.
- Space Guys in Space #7 "Regrets" (2012) Recommended.
- Spice and Wolf #7 "Wolf and Tail of Happiness" (2008) Recommended.
- Spice and Wolf #8 "Wolf and Virtuous Scales" (2008) Recommended.
- Spice and Wolf #9 "Wolf and the Shepherd's Lamb" (2008) Recommended.
