Ruminations on my fic

So anyways, the fic I am working on is supposed to all gen, all friendships and hijinks.

Here's the central premise:

It's been 15 months since the commision of the Enterprise to their first mission, and they headed back to Earth for supplies and of course a much needed shore leave. This would also function as a political tool- showing off the ( Read more... )

oh my oh my this sounds fabulous! this wouldn't happen to be for startrekbigbang, would it?

As far as structure goes, it might get convoluted trying to keep track of so many individual stories. Perhaps, you might want to pick one or two characters/pairings to be the main focus of the story arc, and relegate all of the minor character plot points to standalone stories within the timeline of your universe. For example, you could split it between Kirk and Spock's POV, and they could clash over crew issues regarding Sulu, Chekov, Uhura etc. These incidents would then be fleshed out in the standalone stories, which would serve as a window throughy which to examine the minor characters.

I would be careful of trying to include all nine of the characters you mentioned in one story arc, however--the more characters you add, the more difficult it becomes to do justice to each one's character development. This would esp. bode true for characters like Turner and Number one, who are not likely to figure prominently in the daily drama of Enterprise life going forward. One way to get around this, of course, would be to have one universe and two separate narrative arcs with characters "guest starring" in each others story arcs. Am I making sense?

This is all just my opinion, of course! I didn't mean for this to become so long and rambling. I really intrigued by this premise. ST is a great universe for genfic, and we need more of it!
