George wasn't exactly sure what he'd been expecting Kyle's world to be like. For one, he hadn't expected to promise John Connor - again - not to tell his father about his future. For another, he hadn't expected to talk to said Leader of the Resistance at all, let alone to be bundled off through the tunnels for a medical exam while great big bombs were crashing overhead.
He wasn't much a fan of the great big bombs though he concentrated on playing it off as much as he thought he could get away with. He was more not a fan of this world at all. Tortall and the Lower City had their problems, certain, but their people were never exterminated like plague rats. Not to mention the weight carried by the man who'd grown up as the savior of mankind.
Kate had shown George a a place in the tunnels where she said Derek's unit were bunking before she'd gotten called off. She reminded him of Rispah, that one. Probably best not to mention it. None of the men present greeted him, and that reminded him a bit of the reception a new minnow got at the Rogues' Court the first time or fifteen he tried to show up. They were playing some version of a dice game though. His fingers itched to give it a try. Even at the end of this dark and dirty world, men had to enjoy gambling.
