This past Thursday was an interesting day. I woke up and discovered five new inches of snow had fallen overnight. The interesting part was getting to work that day. The house I'm pet-sitting at is about five miles outside of town in a small development. The county had not been out to plow the road yet, so I carefully drove along, praying that any nearby deer would decide not to try to cross the road. If they started crossing in front of me I would have had to stop and if I stopped I very well could have gotten stuck in the snow. Thankfully, I made it out to the first main road. That also hadn't been plowed so I couldn't tell where the road ended and the ditch started. I drove, what I think was, in the middle of the road and hoped no one came along from the other direction....
When I finally made it inside the city limits, the city streets hadn't been plowed either. That problem was compounded by idiots in four-wheel drive pickups who think "I've got a big ol' truck and can drive as fast as I want to!" which proceeded to drive as fast as they wanted to which, in turn, kicked up major snow fog so it was tough to see anything around you.
I did make it to work finally, in one piece. When I headed back to my pet-sitting house after work, I had no idea what the road conditions would be. Fortunately, they were pretty good until I got to the final stretch that was in the housing development. Those roads still hadn't been plowed. So I decided to just stay in for the evening because I didn't know if I'd be able to see where the snow-covered road ended and snow-filled ditch started in the dark. Choir practice had to go on without my voice that evening. The development roads were finally plowed on Friday morning, so the trip to work was much more relaxing than the day before....I'm tired of snow!!!! 70.5 inches is enough for this winter!!
