I need a new bag.

This Friday, I was disturbed and horrified at the local comic/gaming shop in a way that I've never been before.

Friday night was Shadowrun night, so I went out to Pulp Fiction for the game. I get there, greet the staff and my players, and go back to the gaming area, where the Friday Night Magic players are setting up for a draft tournament. One thing I immediately notice is that there's someone new there. He sticks out a bit - he's an older fellow, probably in his 50s, with a slight pot-belly and balding, graying hair. He asks me if I'm there for the draft, and I tell him that no, I'm not. Then, I set my bags down on the table. For Shadowrun nights, I bring two backpacks. One carries my laptop and binder, and the other carries all the rulebooks, so that there are copies on the table for everyone. That second bag is a Tenjo Tenge bag that I picked up on heavy discount at PF. It's got the name of the series and line art of Maya Natsume (one of the main characters) on the front, and only gets used for carting around extra stuff.

As soon as I set the bags down, I hear (in a somewhat-stereotypical male nerd voice), "Oh, that's my favorite anime." I look up, and it's the old guy. This catches me off-guard, mostly because I wouldn't have picked this guy out as an anime fan.

"What, Tenjo Tenge?" I ask.

"Yeah. That little girl grows up really nice," he says, referring to Maya. (To explain, Maya shapeshifts back and forth from a small child to a buxom teenager.)

My mind immediately starts screaming in horror. Physically, I'm just speechless, and wander out of the gaming room, but inside I'm utterly disgusted. I need to get a new bag, I think, because I don't want to even look at this one anymore. I want nothing to do with it. Seriously, this man disturbs the hell out of me now. I wouldn't bring my daughter in the shop if I saw him there.tim_almasy brought up a good point about him on Saturday night - here's a creepy old guy who's playing a card game with teenage boys.

So yes, I need a new bag. Hell, I'm tempted to burn the old one, just to be utterly rid of it. Unclean, unclean...

shadowrun, games, horror
