Wow, I think I may actually have to put in some work in my personal life this week. This is a terrible idea! 1)Unless your journal is Friends-only, it can be perused by anyone going to www.livejournal.com/users/username (and for any of the tard-enhanced out there, "Friends-only" means that people you chose to be on _your_ friends-list can see the entry. If someone random adds you to theirs, but not vice-versa, the unwelcome "friend" doesn't see jack.
2)This seems to be a case of good intentions by dumb people. Your "friends-of" list isn't really a list of people who claim to be your "friend", it's a list of subscribers. If you really want to limit who can and cannot read your entries, see #1 above. Otherwise, what, other than the label of "friend", makes having someone you don't want reading your journal? LJ has plenty of protections already in place for journalists, I know most of them first hand from having them used against me. What specific problem will this system solve that hasn't been solved better already?
.why even CONSIDER giving into "rage" over something like this? Seems even more 'silly' than the idea of the petition in the first place...
It's only of the classicly bad-feminine ideas, and those things just set me off. I am almost always made livid by the idea of changing the rules of a given thing to enhance "niceness" at the expense of choice. I have nothing but utter contempt and loathing for people who want to make it easier for "mommy" to take care of things. The kind of thought that goes into actions like this is insidious and dangerous to the liberty of free individuals. Thought like this bans pleasant vices. If you really want to know why this sort of thought is dangerous, read up on the philosophy that lead to prohibition and the eventual affects on society banning alchohol had.
This extra (cpu/bandwidth using) step to adding someone to a list of journals you subscribe to is just another way to allow people way too much control of situational arrangments. Frankly, people should NOT be able to control who reads their

No wonder your friend's list is cluttered with people who've added you...satchelmouthMarch 5 2004, 01:06:55 UTC
You're a way awesome chick! (no offense)
I'm adding you to my friends list.
My main purpose for commenting, however, is that I want to join the community you started, "marriageislove". I am a heterosexual male, but an ally of the GLBT community for sure. I am in awe of your strength to start such a community. You rock! :)

i'm desperately trying to find someone from bryan high school. i was wondering, since you're a part of the livejournal meet-up site, if you could find me someone, anyone, from bryan high school that i could talk to in an attempt to find this kid. thank you in advance...

the guy's name was bob, i don't remember his last name, although i remember having a very hard time pronouncing it. he was class president while attending sam rayburn, one of the middle schools. i think he is either a junior or senior this year, and should be fairly well known... i think that's all i've got.

If you'll look at my friends of list, it's cluttered with people that have added me but that I don't even know/like/care to have read my journal.
This would prevent their names from being listed there which just makes it look a lot better.
Anyway....why even CONSIDER giving into "rage" over something like this? Seems even more 'silly' than the idea of the petition in the first place...

But someone's already said basically what I'm thinking, so I won't bother having the same argument you've had once already.
