The Cardavians had been tracking the Doctor for some time. The last Time Lord in existence; and with a sample of his genetic material they could unravel his DNA and discover the secrets of regeneration. With their home planet destroyed and their numbers in decline, regeneration was the only key to their survival; and with it? The power to take ( Read more... )

The Doctor feels them being carried and is extremely alarmed. They were just off to another holiday like planet. They needed the rest. This is NOT what he needed.

He rushes out to the console and looks at the monitor and then at his friend steadying herself.

"Donna! Are you alright?"

She tries to catch her breath, clinging tight to the rail. "Few bumps and bruises. You?"

She inches along the rail to get closer to the console and to the Doctor. "What's going on? Why's the TARDIS being all crazy?"

And as if being thrown about by a crazy, spinning TARDIS wasn't enough, the console was beginning to splutter and spark.

"I'm okay. Someone or something...is got some kind of tractor beam on us, dragging us into their planet. The TARDIS' controls are definitely in override. This is just wonderful!" He yells to no one in particular.

"Can't you fix it? Sonic the controls or something?" Anything? Because the Doctor is brilliant and can fix everything.

The TARDIS jolts again, throwing Donna and the Doctor against the console, well more accurately - Donna into the Doctor and the Doctor against the console.

"Well, until I got knocked away from the console, I was going to do that...ugh," he grunts hitting the console. "If I can get steady enough, I can do a scan," he says, taking out the screwdriver and aiming it at the console and near the monitor.

The console sparks again, bits of metal springing off with a bang, smoke billowing up, causing Donna to squeak - yes squeak - in surprise and worry. The poor old girl is taking quite a beating.

Donna is throw aside by another hard jolt. Ever wonder what it felt like to be a Newton's Cradle? Guess what... you're finding out.

There's no use in doing anything yet, if he can't even stand upright. "What in the hell---" He's thrown again, seeing the mess these beings are making of his TARDIS.

And with a final jolt she stops. Just like that. However, it's not over. The lights of the console begin to blink out one by one, followed the lights of the room. Any plans the Doctor has of turning around and going back are flying right out of the window.

And it's not just the TARDIS security the Cardavians have overcome. They've also bypassed the Doctor's own telepathic defenses to talk straight into his mind. "Time Lord. For so long we have followed you."

Donna is oblivious to the voice. But she's still shaken from the trip. "Doctor??"

The Doctor winces at the sound. So loud, so booming. *Who are you and why did you destroy my ship?* He says in return, wondering who could take control of his mind, other than another Time Lord, or the TARDIS.

"They're trying to control my mind..." He says to Donna, distracted by the voice.

The voice answers, though misses out the vital 'who' part of that question. "Your ship is fine. It is merely in a state of hibernation. It is not your mind we seek. But your body. Time Lord. Last of the Time Lords. We need you."

"They? They who? Doctor?! What's going on??" Cue one very worried companion.

He doesn't even bother to say it in his mind, he just lets it out loud. "My body?! For what?! You don't need me for anything. So what, I'm the last. There's nothing I can do for you, or want to do for you," he yells at the top of his lungs, clearly furious.

"Through your veins runs the secret of life reborn. Time Lord. Last of the Time Lords. You hold the key."

Donna grows more worried. She crosses the console room to take his hand in hers to at least offer moral support if nothing else.

"You shall aid us, Time Lord. Or else..."

"Or ELSE WHAT?! You'll kill me?" He says with a manic laugh.

This is all kinds of weird for Donna. Like listening to one half of a telephone conversation and trying to work out what's going on. All she knows is that she doesn't much like the sound of it.

"It makes no difference to us whether you are alive or dead. We can extract the lifeblood from you after death. Aid us willingly and we shall spare the human. Resist us and..."

Just then, the oxygen begins to drain from the TARDIS and in it's state of forced sleep it cannot stablise the air and make it breathable. The Doctor will be alright for awhile thanks to his respitory bypass, but Donna will soon begin feel the effects.

"You better leave Donna alone! She has nothing to do with this!" He gasps a bit, but his respiratory bypass does kick in. He looks over to his companion, steadying her. He knows she's going to pass out soon.

It's plain to see just how damn scared Donna is. She's petrified. It hurts to breathe. Her chest burns with each breath. The air is so thin. And before long, she does collapse, starved of oxygen.

"Surrender now, Time Lord. Do not condemn your human to death. Every second you waste is a second closer to death." And more importantly, every second without oxygen was a second closer to brain damage. Lovely.
